Coming Soon: The PolyPlinker 3D Printed 22 LR Upper From Deterrence Dispensed
Deterrence Dispensed has been hard at work refining their designs for the FGC-9 and their 3D printed Polymer framed pistols. In the background, Deterrence Dispensed member point9cmbenis has been pouring his efforts into a new piece of hardware that harkens back to the origins of 3D printed firearms. The hardware in question is the PolyPlinker.
Coming Soon: The PolyPlinker 3D Printed 22 LR Upper From Deterrence Dispensed
Bringing the 3D printed firearms community back to its roots, point9cmbenis has begun work on what he has dubbed the PolyPlinker – a .22LR rifle. This 3D printed .22LR rifle is built around a printed AR-15 upper similar to the Ruger Charger and Ruger 10/22 receivers that have been successfully printed in previous works.
The PolyPlinker upper is designed to fit with any AR-15 lower. According to a blog post on the Deterrence Dispensed website, the prototype model was much less aesthetically pleasing than the pre-production model featured at the beginning of this article.
While the prototype model used CMMG conversion .22LR magazines, the pre-production model is using Smith and Wesson M&P-15/22 magazines. The selection of this magazine was based on the fact that they are a far better fit for the FOSSCAD WarFairy Charon AR-15 Lower Receiver – which is another 3D printed part available now in its current 4.0 iteration.
The intention was to create an aesthetically futuristic looking and fun plinking rifle using as many 3D printed parts as possible. The upper and lower receivers are entirely made from PETG plastic which is the most common thermoplastic polymer resin on the market – used in everything from clothing to plastic food containers and now – firearms.
The Charon lower receiver has its looks based on the FN P90 submachine gun while other inspirations were the Hi-Point 995TS, and H&K’s XM8 series experimental rifle from the early 2000s. Hopefully, we will see the full release of the PolyPlinker this year. I have reached out to the team at Deterrence Dispensed for comment and will perhaps make an update article with more details as they are revealed.
For now, it seems that point9cmbenis has a great looking and functioning 3D printed plinker in his hands and when released, it should firmly place him on the map as far as the 3D printed firearms world goes. It would be helpful to specify the specific brand and type of filament being used for these printings.
