[SHOT 2020] SOLGW Introduces the Broadsword

Sons of Liberty Gun Works, a boutique AR-15 manufacturer, has introduced the Broadsword at SHOT 2020. The Broadsword is a Precision Rifle Shooting focused AR-15. It is specifically designed as a law enforcement marksman rifle, that excels at short range high-pressure engagements.

The Broadsword has two small, but significant changes made to the receiver that differentiate it from your standard AR-15. The lower receiver has an extra 0.5″ between the grip and the rear of the trigger guard. This changes the hand position and angle of your grip, for a more PRS focused finger position on the trigger. This small change also isolates the detent for the selector no longer requiring you to remove the pistol grip to change selectors.

The second change was an increase in the area of the upper receiver. It provides an “almost monolithic mating surface for the upper and the rail”. This extra space makes the free-float rail even more free-floating, for lack of a better term. SOLGW worked with an unnamed cold war-era sniper who briefly held “the cold war world record at two miles” who apparently had a lot of input on the design.

Sons of Liberty Gun Works designed the Broadsword with law enforcement marksmen in mind. What does that mean? The furthest distance that a law enforcement marksman engaged a target at is less than 200 yards. So a rifle that excels at the 500-yard range isn’t particularly relevant for their use. Instead, what SOLGW did was make an AR-15 that will hold incredibly tight groups (no exact MOA data was available) at 150-200 yard distances. Additionally, should the mission require it, the rifle can function as a patrol rifle at much shorter ranges.

Ideally, the Broadsword would replace bolt-action guns in the arsenals of some police departments. SOLGW prides itself on providing duty guns that law enforcement can trust, and believe the Broadsword will make an excellent addition to their line of firearms.
