Precision Rifle Out Of The Box: Savage MSR-10 Precision

The Savage MSR-10 Precision Rifle is now out with dealers. By the looks of it, it’s a serious rifle for those who want to start precision rifle shooting with a semi-automatic, at a tempting price.

I examined some of the details of the MSR-10, and there are a few hints that Savage are serious about delivering a quality package rather than keeping the cost down to a bare minimum.

To begin with, just take a look at the pistol grip. It’s a TangoDown Flip Grip, which can rotate from 24 degrees of rake to vertical. If you haven’t tried a more upright pistol grip on your precision rifle you should give it a shot (pun intended). The Magpul PRS stock is well-known furniture, but as you know it’s far from the cheapest option.

Then check the 18-inch Arca handguard. I just got my first Arca handguard fitted to my AR15, which I intend to use for Precision Rifle Series type of shooting (yeah I know, using .223 Rem is stupid). These are dedicated handguards for this type of shooting and come with a price.

The left-hand charge is another nice detail (see above), but of course adds to the price.

The barrel is stainless steel, long heavy style, with 5R button rifling, and the rifle comes in 6 and 6.5 mm Creedmoor and .308 Win.

The trigger is two-stage, which is nice for this type of shooting. There’s no mentioning of which brand, or other details, so it could be of their own design.

    MSR-10 PRECISION

Complete and ready to compete. The Savage® MSR 10 Precision delivers match-winning accuracy with its stainless steel heavy barrel and 5R button rifling.

We also made it competition-worthy right out of the box with upgrades like an 18-inch Arca handguard, Magpul PRS® stock and TangoDown™ Battlegrip Flip Grip, which quickly rotates from 24 degrees of rake to vertical.

Its semi-automatic action is fed by a +2 gas system that can be adjusted for optimal cycling of your specific ammunition.

Savage calls it “Competition-Worthy Right Out of the Box“.
By the looks of it, I have to agree. What do you say?
