FN America have announced the launch of a new model in their 509 family, a mid sized carry pistol. FN have also confirmed that the FN Tactical will also be available in a matte black finish in 2019.

The new mid size, chambered in 9x19mm, has a four inch slide and a frame with a shortened grip. It can feed from 10 round magazines or the larger 15 round mags and it backwards compatible with other FN 509 magazines with the addition of a ‘grip sleeve’. The mid size 509 comes with fixed three-dot luminescent sights. FN describes it as the ‘ideal solution’ for individuals seeking a do-it-all range, home defence and carry pistol to law enforcement use as a back-up duty pistol or carry model for plain clothes officers.

In addition the FN 509 Midsize also has “new sculpting around the magazine release for easier activation, a flatter-faced trigger for a more controlled trigger press and improved slide stop lever and texturing.” In a press release FN America’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Chris Cole, said:

What truly sets FN products apart is the quality. When customers pick up the FN 509 in comparison to other striker-fired 9mm’s, they instantly notice the ergonomics, premium finishes and price point that is competitive. With the FN 509 Midsize and FN 509 Tactical in black, customers will now have four additional FN options in the 9mm striker-fired category to choose from. We believe that options are always a good thing and we’re proud to provide them to our loyal customer base.

The 509 Tactical is now also available in a matte black finish. Both of FN’s new 509 pistols will be on display at this year’s upcoming SHOT show. The 509 Tactical Black has an MSRP of $1,049 while the FN 509 Midsize comes in with an MSRP of $649.
