TFB has covered the Savage MSR15 Competition before, but there are now more details uncovered and – more importantly – shipments have been made to dealers.
The PROOF barrels I have tested have all been very light, sweet and accurate so it’s nice to see them on “off the shelf” competition rifles.
The speed, accuracy and customization needed to win are built into every aspect of the new MSR 15 Competition.Savage teamed with PROOF Research to craft a barrel specific to the firearm. Its unique ported muzzle brake allows the shooter to tune the recoil impulse to stabilize the muzzle for faster, more accurate follow-up shots. The custom-length gas block can be adjusted for optimal cycling of the full range of bullet weights, as well as for use with a suppressor. The gas block has also been upgraded with an integral Picatinny rail and a custom handguard.
WESTFIELD, Massachusetts – October 2018
Savage built the speed, accuracy and customization competitive shooters need to win into every aspect of its new MSR 15 Competition.
The MSR 15 Competition is fitted with an advanced, 18-inch carbon fiber wrapped stainless barrel built specifically for the rifle in a collaborative effort between Savage and PROOF Research. Its unique ported muzzle brake allows the shooter to tune recoil impulse to stabilize the muzzle for faster, more accurate follow-up shots.
The custom-length gas block can be adjusted for optimal cycling of the full range of bullet weights, as well as for use with a suppressor. The gas block has also been upgraded with an integral Picatinny rail and a custom handguard.

You can get the MSR Competition in two calibers, the price is the same:

22936 / 224 Valkyrie, 18-inch barrel / $2,875
The 223 runs a 1 in 8” twist and the 224 uses 1 to 7″.
According to Savage the weight is 7.90 pounds (3.6 kilograms).
Do we have any readers in Savage’s target group? What do you say, does the MRS 15 come with the right features and price?
Personally I like the PROOF barrel and the left-hand charge looks interesting. I would definitely have chosen another stock however, and prefer single stage triggers.
