Standard Manufacturing SKO Mini 12 Gauge FIREARM

Standard Manufacturing has released the shortest version of their SKO semi-auto shotguns – the SKO Mini. Perhaps the most interesting “feature” of this shotgun is that just like the Remington Tac-14 or Mossberg Shockwave, it is legally considered not a shotgun but a “Firearm” despite the barrel length of 14 3/4″.

If I understand correctly, the reason this gun is not an NFA item (SBS), is that SKO Mini is manufactured without a stock which means it is not designed to be fired from a shoulder therefore legally it is not a shotgun. If it is not a shotgun, it can’t be a Short Barreled Shotgun no matter the barrel length. Furthermore, because the overall length of the SKO Mini is greater than 26″, it is not an AOW either. You can read the ATF letter determining the classification of this weapon by clicking here. Now, I am not a lawyer and if you noticed a misinterpretation of the law, please let me know.

At any rate, the advantage that the legal status of “Firearm” gives you is that you won’t need to pay the $200 tax to acquire this firearm.

Now let’s get to the features of this gun. The SKO Mini is a gas operated semi-automatic firearm. It is chambered in 12 gauge and has a 3″ chamber length. This gun is fed from detachable box magazines of 2, 5 or 10 round capacity. The receiver is CNC machined out of 7075 aluminum and features a mil-spec hard coat anodized finish. The barrels of SKO shotguns are made of 4140 steel. The gun has a 22″ top Picatinny rail and M-LOK slots on the handguards. Other features of the SKO Mini include the threaded muzzle (Tru-Choke thread pattern), AR-15 style magazine release button, bolt catch and ambidextrous safety selector. The pistol grip is an AR-15 compatible one. The overall length of this firearm is 27″ and it weighs 7.14 lbs.
