Here is another photo sent in by Miles. These Marines were cutting a cake celebrating 100 year anniversary of the 6th Marine Regiment with a bayonet mounted Springfield M1903.

    lol that’s awesome!

Otherwise it’s always done with an NCO or Officer’s sword.

The biggest action a Bayonet sees in the last 20 years.

Other than OIF 1 were Marines conducted 2 bayonet charges

“Why is there blood on my cake?”

  • Major Tom

This is one of the reasons why the Springfield is better weapon than the M4. That and it has won two world wars. How many world wars has the AR won again? Zero. Two world war victories is better than zero ergo 1903 Springfield is better than the AR.

    QED.

The logic behind that statement is beyond irrational. How about going back to the Springfield and Enfield muskets used by the Union Army in the 1861-1865 war ?

How about you upgrade your sarcasm detectors?

  • Ark

Only because that unit has yet to be issued updated equipment. Word is they’re due for M1s sometime next year. 😀

“Hey Gunny, cut me a slice of that purple crayon”

  • Mazryonh

Why not do the cake cutting with an marine officer’s sword? Oh wait, because swords belong in the “ash heap of military history,” just like “horses and bayonets.”

While we’re in this train of thought, a good way to make the sound of firecrackers without the use of explosives or guns would be to line up a bunch of marines with bayonet-equipped rifles and have them stab a bunch of balloons to make the celebratory popping noises.

Unless you are a Marine and understand our traditions …….STFU

There is a right way, a wrong way and a Marine Corps way. I will take the Marine Corps way every time.

I’m truly surprised the CO would authorize such a thing in the day in age of perpetual ORM fears. Having been a 6th Marine myself they keep those devils on a very short leash and I’m surprised to see anything other than a rubber training rifle with a BFA attached just for extra safe measure.

Then again those are officers handling that scary assault rifle with the enlisted far away in the back….

  • Klaus Von Schmitto

Let’s see him cut that cake into 51 equal slices with a bayonet. And I mean equal. In the rain.

Don’t ever send a boot a birthday cake. Unless you hate them.

  • Mark Horning

I remember the Air Force always used a sword. Of course, since nobody actually had an Air Force sword we always had to borrow one from one of the Navy guys on base…

Great idea, but a bit of a mess. I cut our wedding cake with a Garter Dagger knife I made for my wife, it was a great event!
