American Eagle Target Loads: 300 BLK, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5 Creedmoor

    American Eagle

Announced earlier this year, Federal is now shipping all three new target loads in its American Eagle line of ammunition. The new loads cover these calibers: 300 BLK, 6.5 Creedmoor and 6.5 Grendel.

    300 BLK

The Blackout cartridge continues to grow in popularity for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is its ability to run in a standard 5.56 NATO AR with a quick barrel or upper swap. The one thing that has hurt the cartridge is the relative lack of inexpensive ammunition for the high volume shooting that many AR owners enjoy.

The American Eagle line is positioned as a less expensive alternative to the Federal Premium brands. For this load, Federal selected a 150 grain FMJ-BT bullet that is loaded to 1,900 fps. A 20 round box has a suggested retail price of $17.95, and online pricing is likely to be less if you shop around.

    6.5 Creedmoor

For a cartridge popular with the accuracy crowd, Federal went with a 140 grain open tip match bullet in this Creedmoor load. This one is loaded to 2,700 fps. Also sold in 20 round boxes, these have a MSRP of $33.95.

    6.5 Grendel

The Grendel is quite popular with AR shooters looking for a 6.5mm round in an AR-15 platform. This load has a 120 grain OTM bullet that is loaded to 2,610 fps.

With the recall of the Prvi Partizan 6.5 Grendel ammo, the American Eagle load will likely be in even greater demand from US shooters. A 20 round box has a suggested retail of $31.95.
