TFB’s Very Own Live Ammo Feed!

You may have noticed that we haven’t produced the weekly ammo post in a couple of months. Some of you were probably like “Thank goodness!”. But for those of you that sent email wondering where it had gone (which was definitely a few), I would like to introduce you to it’s replacement, the TFB Ammo Feed.

We’ve been working on building out our own ammo feed product where we can provide highly targeted results based on your feedback and include the features and results you want. Today we are releasing this as a beta product in order to gauge interest and gather feedback from you, our readers, about what you want to see.

So, what makes this different than the other search engines? Well, for one, it is embedded in the BEST firearm related blog on the web, the one you are reading right now! 🙂 Second, we are able to crawl and extract a significant amount of detailed information from vendor sites and make that information searchable. We are also harvesting the information on a fairly narrow schedule and so you should not see stale listings. In fact the default list is only showing results current within the last two hours.

The Firearm Blog is the first major blog to provide an inline ammo feed. Currently it will be in a beta release while we acquire feedback from you, the readers, about WHAT YOU WANT TO SEE. Based on some super early feedback, we have pre-configured the filters and initial list (this accounts for a fraction of the capability). If there are different things you would like to filter on, please let us know.

We have started off with a limited number of vendors (right now about 20), and we have a list of another 1,000+ sites that we could add over the coming months if your feedback tells us that this is something you’d be interested in using. We are also only currently displaying a subset of calibers (we are actually capturing a lot more than we are showing). We know everyone is going to want more vendors and calibers right out of the box, and that is an ongoing focus.

We have a ton of features on the drawing board (but only so much time in the day to integrate them). We need your feedback to prioritize which ones will make it out the door first. We will also integrate premium features at some point to allow personalization of the feed, real-time alerts, etc.

Think of this as YOUR feed. Tell us what would make this a feature you would return to and use!

Cool! Villagers demand 300blackout! (yes, I filled out the survey)

  • Scrotal Recall

The 762*.39 brass case pulls only steel, filtering by steel only pulls steel.

    • Doc Rader

Good find. Dang it. We are on it.

  • USMC03Vet

When the page loads it’s just blank except for the top domain header and text “Ammunition In-Stock and Updated Within the Past 2 Hours”. Is there some fancy plugin I have to run?

    • Doc Rader

Currently we are loading it in an iframe (has to do with some server issues). You may have to give it a couple of seconds.

There should be no plugins required. Did it finally come up? What browser (and version) are you on?

      • USMC03Vet

        Nope. Nothing loads.

        Firefox 38.0.5

        • Strange I have Firefox on mine and it loads fine.

        • Doc Rader

So it looks like it may be an issue related to the fact on the feed we enforce SSL and TFB is not on that protocol. Firefox may be blocking the iframe contents because of the mismatch in protocol. (I found a couple of article indicating that could be the case).

We need to reconfigure the feed to allow either protocol and test from there.

          • USMC03Vet

            Works now!

  • Craig Kleemann

looks great, hopefully the updated version will include 5.45×39?

  • 300 Blackout and 7.62x54R would be great! Off to the survey…

  • Nosmo King

No workee for me, either. Firefox 38.0.5, NoScript HUGE number of scripts I had to allow and still no joy, and saw over a dozen entries in the “recently blocked sites” heading after allowing all the other scripts. If you need that many invasive scripts to make it work, I don’t need your offering. Thanks anyway.

  • Joshua

will it work for Canadian readers?

    • Doc Rader

      Don’t see why not.

  • Sickshooter0

Maybe a “New Search” button so you don’t have to deselect every option to start another search?

  • Geoff a well known Skeptic

Firefox 38.0.5 shows nothing. IE 11 gives error msg: “This content cannot be displayed in a frame. Th help protect the security of information you enter into this website the publisher of this content does not allow it to be displayed in a frame.” “What you can try: Open this content in a new window.” New window, same result.

Can TFB answer this simple question, it is not apparently clear.
Are TFB seeking payment from vendors to have their product/site listed in the TFB ammo feed?

    • Doc Rader

But we are starting with vendors that have a high number of current listings which have detailed product information. We will also prioritize vendors that produce a consumable feed with the same criteria. (Just as we took no payment from the vendors for the listing in weekly ammo article)

      • WFA

        Thanks for confirming that.

    Looks like a searchable gunbot…..
