Self Illuminating Fiber-Optics with TruGlo TFX

We’ve written about TruGlo’s TFO sights before. At SHOT this year, they were showing off the next generation named the TFX.

To recap, TFO is a patented combination of Tritium and Fiber-Optics, basically keeping the Fiber-Optic illuminated even in low-light situations. The TFX is the “eXtreme” version… 🙂 What they have done is encapsulate the TFO technology in a nearly indestructible container that is impervious to oils, chemicals, cleaning solvents and ultra-sonic cleaning processes. The sights are more compact than the previous iteration, and have been modified to have a longer sight radius. The have also added a high visibility white ring around the front fiber.

I was pretty impressed with the brightness, and how easy the sights were to pick up. They also had a dark box where you could demo the sights in low light.

Ugh on three dot sights, double ugh on bright ones.

If they managed to make a front sight that won’t break under mild use these might be interesting, but from my experience that’s a big IF to initially just assume.

Three dot blows – Takes too long to align them vertically. My favorite design is the front dot with a rear U-notch to put it in.

I’ve had the best luck with the ‘Bar-Dot’ sight that comes factory on Kahrs. I wish there were more options like that for more handguns, especially night sights. I suppose the XS 24/7 sights might be pretty similar though I’ve not seen any in person.

10-8 U-notch all black rears are definitely my favorite sights. I’m a little bummed I won’t be able to get them for the new SIGs. They will always have a home on my Glocks though.

This has promise. Not as interested in the rear sight, hopefully they will sell them separately.

  • Very interested as this as a front sight with black rears.
