CSG Maglite Flashlight Gun

410compb-tm-tfb

AutoWeapons.com is selling a AOW gun, called the CSG Companion, that chambers a single .410 shot gun shell and functions as a flashlight. It is selling for $895.

The gun is branded as CSG. I can find no information on this firm other than their FFL details. The gun is almost identical in appearance to the Ares Defense flashlight guns sold some years ago. From AutoWeapons.com …

CSG AOW .410 COMPANION MAG-3 D CELL LIGHT/ FLASHLIGHT GUN….. NEW RELEASE ….. A JOINT PROJECT FROM CSG AND ASI —- A NEW UPDATED VERSION OF THE .410 MAG TYPE FLASHLIGHT FIREARM……. THESE UNITS HAVE AN ALL STEEL FIRE CONTROL, BARREL AND CHAMBER ASSEMBLY…. THE STEEL BARREL/CHAMBER ASSEMBLY THEN SCREWS INTO THE FIRE CONTROL HOUSING TO MAKE FOR A LIFETIME USE UNIT…. FOR A COMPACT TOP QUALITY BACK UP .410 AOW AND FLASHLIGHT THE CSG COMPANION .410 IS IT.

The grenade-style pin acts as a safety. To fire you release the bolt.
The business end.

This is definitely illegal in many (european, at least) countries as a firearm disguised as an object not resembling a gun.

  • Jim S

Hi. I’m not a gun designer….but I think I see a serious flaw. When I point said flashlight at…anything, I muzzle myself. Could they not turn it around? I wouldn’t mind if the shot shell was behind the light. Then, have the manufacturer give away free bulbs, reflector dishes, and the glass on the front to anyone using the piece in self defense.

It would be good PR for the company by sharing stories of where their flashlight saved somebody. And it would make me feel better about not pointing the business end of that boomstick at my self or anyone on the opposite end of the bright side.

  • Jeff

Even with a safety pin, I don’t know if I’d want to carry something that when used as a flashlight points the business end in my direction. You’d also be taking the light off the target to flip it around.

  • TKC

is it me or is the barrel is kinda aiming in the wrong direction….and thats just for starters….

  • DaveR

where’s the optic and where’s the Magpul???

but no, seriously, i’ve been waiting for a flashlight with a gun in it forEVER!

    but no, seriously… SERIOUSLY?!!

  • Veeshir

    Okay, that’s pretty scary.

The light goes one way and the “boom” goes the other.

That seems like a recipe for “oops”.

  • Trango

I’m sorry but that is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen. Really? I can see some guy accidentally shooting himself while trying to fix a leaky pipe under the sink.

If you need this thing as “last resort” backup then you need to check your tactics and training.

  • Other Steve

Just like everything else autoweapons.com sells, OVERPRICED. They must rely on one or two suckers a year to carry them through. In 4 or 5 years of looking over there I have not once seen even a decent deal. That and their use of CAPSLOCK constantly is rather annoying.

Also, the dead give away that something is up when you see someone carrying this AOW is that who else carries a maglight anymore? If the owner isn’t 75 and just doesn’t know any better it’s probably safe to assume AOW.

  • drewogatory

Awesome, so when you are using it as a flashlight you are constantly sweeping yourself and everything behind you. “Grenade style” safety or not, I’m not comfortable with pointing a loaded .410 right into my freaking face.

  • MrSatyre

    Pass.

  • Josh

This is just like the aligator kill still design from red jacket on their show Sons of Guns just with a flashlight on the other side.

  • Bandito762

Seems like a good way to shoot yourself

  • s0m3d00d

    Derp!

  • http://paulinhouston.blogspot.com Paul_In_Houston

you realize that, if you hold it the way most people hold a flashlight, guess where the “business” end is pointing. :(

  • Nigel Cupcake

Red Jacket’s stick gun from the show Sons of Guns?

  • AK-Adventurer

Thats a bloody big, expensive zip gun…

  • http://charismaticmegafauna.deviantart.com/ Seamus

This seems like it’d cause a lot of accidents. Moreover, a burglar wouldn’t be intimidated by a flashlight (except a monstrosity like the Maglite), making this less-than-useful for home defense.

  • Badaboom

These sorts of things (ordinary looking items that can fire rounds) are really stupid and really bad for the pro-gun side and the pro-gun side should do all they can to keep products like these off the market.

  • Badaboom

I’m also surprised that Maglite hasn’t sued this company for infringing on their intellectual property.

  • Dan

..what’s the point of this? They make flashlights that mount on guns, whoever thought putting a gun INSIDE a flashlight must have been high as a kite.

  • Facepalm

Wow. Someone finally made an actual physical award to give to deserving Darwin’s awards nominees. Can we make it gold plated too?

@Badaboom- I agree, this just makes those in the firearms industry, and those of us that enjoy shooting sports, or carry for self defense, look bad. James Bond shit is not practical self defense, and I can see no other purpose for it, except novelty. Vote with your money gentlemen (and ladies), see how many they sell when no one will buy it.

  • Anointedsword

Maybe we should stop saying things are illegal before the ink is even dry and start challenging the politicians like we write their checks. We, have allowed way too much as is…

  • Bryan S

What, you guys never saw one of these before? its just a variation of a pen gun, and they were made for years, like the link says.

  • Cleve

Reminds me of the perp I read about a few years ago who attacked a woman (his wife or ex, I believe) while she was sitting in a car. He grabbed a shotgun by the muzzle and attempted to smash the windshield with the buttstock. It discharged, blowing a nice hole through his middle.

I sure wouldn’t ever carry this thing around.

    • Cobranut

Mr. Darwin, we have a winner. LOL

  • cc19

“1. ALWAYS keep the gun pointed in a safe direction.”

A flashlight shaped gun doesn’t seem to promote that rule.

  • Brandon

Stupidest thing I’ve seen in weeks. At $900, I’ll be shocked if anyone actually buys that thing

  • j

I can see that a lot of people disapprove- I love the idea, and I am not really uncomfortable with having the muzzle aimed at me.
My question- how much power does it have with a 0″ barrel?
steve could you answer, if possible?

    • http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/ Steve (The Firearm Blog)

j, I think it has more than 0″.

  • Trango

@j what are you smoking? Take a break for about….forever, whatever it is.

People will buy this thing unfortunately. I’ve already seen some in other threads proclaim what great idea it is. These are undoubtedly the same guys who buy the “male enhancement” pills. See, there’s a reason God doesn’t want you procreate and this “gun” will help ensure you don’t when you accidentally shoot yourself.

It is good to see so many here shoot down and/or make fun of such a dumbass product.

  • http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/ Steve (The Firearm Blog)

J, looking at it again, yes it appear to be 0″. It probably has a 3″ chamber, so that would give it some space to burn powder, but you’re right, muzzle energy would be very low.

  • j

Thanks! it would be nice if they released info about that

  • j

    jeez dude, sorry

  • Cory

    YIKES!

  • swampwitch

So LEO pay attention: if the perp is pointing the dark end of the flashlight at you, drop him.

  • Jed

I think Ill make one…i have many maglites about.

  • Dave W.

The nice thing about a real shotgun is the fact that just seeing it is enough to stop most criminal types, therefore avoiding the need to shoot the poor fool in the first place. This flashlight piece of junk is just asking for trouble.

  • Cobranut

With basically NO barrel, I bet that thing is LOUD!!! if nothing else. ;-)
