The Onion on hollow point bullets

The infamous fake news / satire website The Onion have made a video entitled “Manufacturer Recalls Hollow Point Bullets That Fail To Explode Inside Targets”.

It is pretty funny, even though it is making fun of us and that they do not know the difference between handgun and rifle ammo.

Thanks to David for the link.

The only funny thing is that despite the obvious and glaring falacies presented in this mock news cast, it is still better researched and more fair and even-handed that an actual news broadcast about guns.

“…they do not know the difference between handgun and rifle ammo.”

“…the obvious and glaring falacies “

Actually if you stop and think about it, that’s exactly how so-called legit news is where guns are concerned, so it’s very accurate after all!

“the lung-shreddingest bullets on the market”

That seriously made me crack up. The Onion has some really classy material. I’m not sure if the video is a dig at guns in general or the ammunition market’s constant parading of new bullet tech. Regardless, it’s pretty funny I have to say. Just don’t tell them about API rounds or “inferno” bullets will be the new “cop killer” bullets!

    Laughing at ourselves is good.

I can see how it might not make sense to someone that I keep several thousand rounds of ammo on hand. It’s not obvious how much practice it takes to shoot well.

It makes perfect sense. Everyone should be as prepared as you for when the zombie’s attack.

    Not funny

Paying close attention to the content of the Onion satire shows them hitting all the buttons of the vilest left-winger tropes about American gun owners.

Note the would be murderer who is pictured like an Elmer Fudd. That by itself isn’t so terrible. What is terrible is the crack about killers returning to methods like dragging someone behind a car.

That is a reference to the dragging death of James Byrd
with which the left-wing vilely tried to implicate Bush as a sympathetic racist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Byrd_Jr.#Campaigning

What the Onion parody all boils down to is the ugliest left-wing smears about American gun culture: that greedy corporations profit from the nations criminal violence and the average ammo buyer is a murderous white-trash racist.

The Onion parody is about as funny and in good taste as a modern day black-face routine.

Haha, that’s funny. I love how they’ve got a diagram that shows bullet impact. Terrible, but funny.

I also laughed when I saw the “Firearms not Politics” header but then see Brad going off on his delusional tangent. I seem to be a dying breed – a so called “left-winger” interested in shooting and reloading. It really pains me to see people that enjoy my hobby using such inflammatory terms and lumping everyone together. It is for this reason that I do not join the NRA. Many people there, including Wayne LaPierre, hold this biased, ignorant and rather crude view of those of us who do not share your ideological beliefs. So please, clean it up and use your head. I hope you spend as much time cleaning your firearm as you do making incorrect statements!

Also, can anyone give me tips about reloading wildcat cartridges? I’d like to begin experimenting with my own loads but don’t know where to start.
