The Rimfire Report: George Kellgren's 22LR Scorpion – The Intratec TEC-22

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is entirely focused on rimfire firearms and their related fields. Last week we had a really nice discussion about two of my favorite rimfire handguns, the Ruger MK IV and the SIG P322. While I correctly guessed that most of you would much prefer the MK IV 22/45, I was actually quite surprised just how many of you like the P322 for what it is and what it does. I had the preconceived notion that a majority of people who have owned them actually don’t like them based on online feedback. However, based on everything you guys said in the comments last week, it seems to me that the P322 is indeed a fun plinker… at least when it works! This week we’re going to talk about a pistol that most of you guys either haven’t even heard of or have scrubbed from your memory entirely due to the litany of problems the poor rimfire pistol had over its brief 10-year lifespan. Today we’ll be talking about the George Kellgren-designed Interatec TEC-22 22LR semi-automatic pistol. While it might look like a boring plastic polymer 22LR pistol, the TEC-22 has a lot of interesting features that make it worth looking over or maybe even owning as a collector’s item.

The Rimfire Report: Single Shot "Revolver" – The Savage 101 Story

Hello and welcome to another edition of   TFB’s Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of firearms, shooting sports, ammunition, and history! I am back at the helm filling in for Luke C for this week. Last week Doug E had the Rimfire Report reins and dissected the Strange Beretta U22 NEOS Pistol. Today I thought it would be fun to talk about a firearm that’s been on my list for a long while. I of course am referring to the Savage 101 revolver…I mean pistol. Let’s dive right in!

The Rimfire Report: The Strange Beretta U22 NEOS Pistol

Welcome back to TFB’s Rimfire Report, where we cover all things relating to rimfire cartridges. This week, we’ll take a jump back to the time when Beretta decided to create a pistol with a frame-mounted safety. All joking aside though, we’ll take a look at the science fiction-styled Beretta U22 NEOS chambered in .22LR. Even though the Beretta NEOS has since been discontinued, you can still find them for sale here and there at decent prices and Beretta still stocks some parts. Let’s take a look.

The Rimfire Report: Uncle Fudd's Wild Forward Charging 10/22

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, ammo, history, and shooting sports. Last week we talked about a complex gun from the past – the BSA Ralock 22LR takedown rifle. This week we’re setting our sights on something that Uncle Fudd is working on in his garage right now. Uncle Fudd isn’t a derogatory term in this case but rather the name of a man who has a normal day job and kids just like the rest of you, but who just loves tinkering around with his firearms in ways that often turn heads, but probably also turn stomachs for some of you out there. This time Uncle Fudd is working on a new Forward Charging 10/22 rifle. Why? Just because! The 10/22 in all but a rare handful of cases has always ejected and charged from the right-hand side. Uncle Fudd is going to fix that by adding a feature to the 10/22 you never knew you needed – a forward-mounted charging handle stuffed inside of a Grey Birch MFG La Chassis.

The Rimfire Report: The Complex British-Made BSA Ralock

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report!  This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of guns, ammo, and shooting sports. Last week we talked about the direction that the rimfire industry might be going and while we were talking about odd designs in the modern age, that got me thinking about quite an odd design that came out of the post-World War II era – the BSA Ralock. BSA or Birmingham Small Arms brought the Ralock rifle to the scene in 1947—an entirely consumer-focused rifle that was a blend of top-notch quality, unique design, and a dash of machine gun inspiration. Let’s dive into what makes this vintage firearm tick, from its funky features and limited production history to where you might find one in the wild today.

The Rimfire Report: Is The Hammerli Force B1 The Way of the Future?

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many different types of firearms, history, trends, ammunition, and much more! The TFB and TFBTV crew have just come back from SHOT Show 2024 and to be honest, it was kind of a blur. This year was probably the busiest we have been and probably the most heavily trafficked I’ve ever seen the show in recent years. That being said, the yearly grind of booth assaults is still one of the most enjoyable events of the year for me mostly because of the good company of the entire TFB/TFBTV crew, but also for the sheer amount of cool and new stuff we get to see. This year I was excited to see a couple of new 22LR offerings including the brand new Hammerli Force B1. This new 10/22-esque-looking firearm not only uses Ruger pattern BX magazines, but it features a quick change barrel system so you can swap between cheap and fun 22LR to the much more potent and reliable 22WMR with a lightning-fast and neat quick change barrel system. While that’s cool news in and of itself, I think the rimfire sector of the firearms industry is finally starting to see a lot more of its deserved attention. As we’ll discuss today, I think the Hammerli Force B1 is a great indicator of things to come in the rimfire firearm world, and of course, take a closer look at this neat new convertible rimfire rifle.

The Rimfire Report: France's Gevarm 22LR Open Bolt Semi-Auto Rifles

Welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of rifles, handguns, ammunition, and shooting sports! In the last installment, we brought you all back a bit in time to when the Mitchell Arms company produced one of the most unique and fondly remembered 50-round rotary drum magazines for the Ruger 10/22 rifle. Many people who have owned these, including those of you in the comments, lamented that while they have great memories of shooting with these unique 50-rounders, most of you have stopped due to concerns over the deterioration of the bolt, and other plastic components. I suppose for now they’ll just have to remain a nice rimfire junkie’s collector’s item. This week we’re headed to France, or rather talking about a French-made gun that is not only really rare in the United States, but rare for rimfire firearms in general. We’re talking about our titular firearm for today’s Rimfire Report – the Gevarm series of open-bolt 22LR semi-auto rifles.

The Rimfire Report: The Forgotten Mitchell 50/22 50-Round 10/22 Magazine

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of its guns, shooting sports, ammunition, and of course, rich history! This week we’re taking a look at an old and probably almost forgotten-about accessory for the Ruger 10/22 rifle – the Mitchell 50/22 Magazine, a 50-round drum magazine that is much more than meets the eye when compared to today’s 50-round drum offerings for the Ruger 10/22. What I’ve learned about these nifty magazines recently has made me wish that these rare magazines would make a comeback. So join me today as we explore who the Mitchell Arms company was, how their 50-round drum offering for the 10/22 rifle performed, and of course where you can find these rare magazines now and how much you should expect to pay for one.

Rimfire Report: 1950s 22LR Barrelette Shotgun Adapter

Hello and welcome to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of firearms, shooting sports, ammunition, and history! I am back at the helm filling in for Luke C for this week. Last week Luke kicked off the takedown vs SBR 22LR debate. Today I’m gonna talk about a recent purchase of a barrel adapter of a different time. Let’s dive into the Barrelette Shotgun Adapter from the 1950s.

The Rimfire Report: The Discontinued (again) Springfield M6 Scout

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its many types of guns, ammo, shooting sports, history, and more! Last week we got knee-deep into combination guns and their heavy use of 22LR. While we specifically took a look at the Savage Model 24 combination gun, we also mentioned the M6 Scout Survival Rifle or Aircrew Survival Weapon. This handy little takedown combination gun was issued to aircrews for nearly 20 years during the post-WWII years and has not only an interesting history but quite a lively secondhand market on auction sites like GunBroker.com. Today we’ll take a look at its history, and of course, check out what people who own these rare firearms have to say about them and their performance.

The Rimfire Report: The H&K P7K3 – The Time H&K Made A 22LR P7

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and all of the different kinds of guns, ammo types, and history it has to offer us. Last week we talked a bit about the fairly rare Italian-made SM64 Takedown rifle. While the rifle itself is interesting, there are far better modern options currently on the market including one from Fletcher Rifle Works that we’ve been testing over the last couple of weeks. This week we’re taking another look at a rimfire gun I came across on Gunbroker, the H&K P7K3. Today we’ll take a look at this auction as well as what we already know about the P7K3, the facts surrounding this rare little plinker might surprise you even if you’re already a fan of the H&K P7 pistol!

The Rimfire Report: The Fletcher Rifle Works OpenTop Takedown Rifle

Hello and welcome to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world! Last week we had fellow writer Patrick O. share his SIG Sauer 522 Classic rimfire rifle. Sadly the SIG 552 is out of production and parts are slowly drying up as the rifle falls further into history. A big thank you to Patrick for sharing that one with us! This week we’re just coming off of 10/22 day, and as a coincidence, I just happened to pick up one of the newest rifles from Fletcher Rifleworks – the new OpenTop Takedown rifle. This new take on the Fletcher Rifle Works OpenTop 11/22 receiver adds on a premium takedown-equipped barrel and receiver, as well as a longer top Picatinny rail that extends the full length of the top of the receiver making it much more suitable to use with traditional riflescopes. While I haven’t been able to take the rifle to the range just yet, I figured today I’d give you all a closer look at the rifle in advance!

The Rimfire Report: TFB Reader Builds a 22LR Dragunov Sniper Rifle

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire world and its many different types of firearms, ammunition, shooting sports, and history! Last week we talked a bit about the new TacSol Owyhee Takedown in 22 Magnum. The Owyhee Takedown in 22 Magnum is something I’ve been waiting for for quite a long time. When it comes to survival rifles, a lot of emphasis is usually placed on making them compact, but not very powerful – at least in the rimfire world. Now we have access to a small rifle about the size of a Ruger 10/22 takedown, that can not only accept suppressors, but can also mount optics, and stow extra gear (yes even ammo but only loose rounds) in a convenient lightweight package that can still pack a punch. If you missed out on that review, you can check it out here. This week we’re getting back to one of our long-time readers Axel from Germany. You’ll remember Axel from our previous coverage of him and his neat Sci-Fi rifle design made from two Marlin Model 60 rifles. Well, this time he’s back at it again with another one of his passion projects but this one is just a bit closer to earth – it’s a 22LR Dragunov (SVD). Today we’ll take a look at what he’s done to accomplish this and hopefully, this will give some of you at-home gunsmiths the inspiration to tackle a project like this on your own.

The Rimfire Report: The TacSol Owyhee Takedown in 22MAG

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world! A few weeks ago we had fellow TFB Writer Rusty S show us the Owyhee Takedown Bolt Action rifle in 22LR. For a lot of people, having a small, bolt-action rimfire rifle is more than enough for backpacking or perhaps even some quiet pest control on the homestead. The 22LR version of the rifle proved to be accurate enough, but there might have been some potential reliability issues with specific ammunition. Overall, I think you could do worse, but you could also do a lot better. And TacSol I think has done a lot better with their newest takedown rifle in the Owyhee lineup, the new Owyhee Takedown in 22 Magnum. Today we’ll take a look at this magnum edition of the Owyhee Takedown to see if it might be worth picking up to help you take care of some slightly larger critters.

The Rimfire Report: The Romanian M69 – Full-Sized 22LR Military Trainer

Hello and welcome back to another edition of The Rimfire Report! This ongoing series is all about the rimfire firearm world and its various types of guns, gear, ammunition, and history. Last week we talked about the Volquartsen Summit straight-pull rifle. This nifty yet expensive rifle is “near perfect” when described by those who own it but I think what holds a lot of us back from purchasing one is just the sheer upfront cost of one. The Volquartsen Summit is already $600 or more for just a completed receiver. However, I’ve seen people spend way more money on far less refined products within this industry so don’t let me influence your purchasing habits, I’d probably have one too if I had the money! This week, we’re diving back into a bit of both history and affordably priced firearms – the Romanian M69 full-sized 22LR military trainer rifle. Military trainer rifles chambered in 22LR are nothing new but I’ve often heard examples of some of these fairly old and fairly simple rifles outperforming a lot of modern dedicated 22LR designs. While I was out in Finland, I got to talking with my buddy Calvin who runs the YouTube Channel Firepower United. Some of you who’ve been here for a while will remember him from his collaborations with TFBTV’s Alex C in the early days. Calvin and I got to talking about gun collections and it turns out he has a litany of 22LR military trainers and this week he’s graciously allowed me to use one of his as an example for this edition of The Rimfire Report. Be sure to check out his YouTube channel and Instagram if you like humourous takes on some of gun culture’s biggest jokes and tropes.
