Machine guns need optics, that sounds like an obvious statement but the stresses recoil puts on an optic are a serious factor when developing new mounted optics.

In yesterday’s end-of-day update, Daniel gave you a pretty good idea of what a TFB writer can expect at SHOT Show, but he didn’t mention one other factor. If you don’t live in a place with gun laws as permissive as the U.S., especially the southwestern U.S., SHOT Show coverage can be a particularly tough gig as you can’t ever expect to personally own a lot of the most interesting firearms. I’m not talking about the belt-fed machine guns or other wacky defense-sector stuff, I’m talking about basic, everyday firearms that y’all take for granted. Pistols. Revolvers. Semi-auto rifles.

March Scopes is a high-end scope manufacturer from Japan, and they came all the way to SHOT Show again in 2025. I met them at the show last year and got to borrow their dual focal plane FX 1.5-15x42 optic last year for a review, and it lived up to thir reputation. This year they have a new optic focused on the PRS-style competition market and they gave me the full run-down on it.

Maztech Industries hit the scene at SHOT Show 2024, and they were back this year to show the latest improvements to their products. They are not on the market just yet but are getting close to release and we got to see them in their functional forms. Keep reading for details and more pictures.

Day two of SHOT Show has come to an end and that means it is time for a roundup of the day’s going-ons with the TFB team. We have developed a reputation as a publication for covering SHOT Show thoroughly, both the big releases and some off-the-wall and niche things as well. I thought it would be interesting to fill the readers in on what it is like to cover the show and about some of our processes to add a little color commentary and perspective on this crazy operation.

Geissele is known for AR platform parts and guns, but they are getting into bolt actions as well. The new King Hunter rifle in 7mm Backcountry is their first entry in that space. But that's not the only new gun they showed off this year!

Century Arms is expanding its family of roller-delayed pistols. New for 2025 are the AP-51 in 7.62 NATO and the AP-53 in 5.56 NATO. The AP-5SD is also new and we had our first chance to check it out.
