POTD: French Snipers With Leupold Mark5 HDs

What a great Photo Of The Day! This is from the 2024 International Sniper Competition where Sgt. Paco Casas and Sgt. Benjamin Jean-Jourdaine from France fire their rifles at their assigned targets. This is during the “TI-89” event on the Galloway Range at Fort Moore, Ga., in April 2024. It looks like they’re using firearms from their U.S. friends, with the Barrett MRAD and M110 Semi-Automatic Sniper System. The scopes are Mark5 HDs from Leupold but with different magnification ranges.

12,000 French Rifles For Ukraine

French arms manufacturer Verney-Carron, through its defense brand Lebel, has signed a framework contract with Ukrspecexport, a Ukrainian state-owned arms trading company, for a substantial number of small arms. The contract covers carbines, precision rifles and 40mm grenade launchers.

France Provides Suriname with FAMAS Rifles

France has donated several hundred FAMAS bullpup rifles to Suriname’s armed forces. Suriname borders French Guiana and has a military partnership with France. The press release from the French embassy in Paramaribo, Suriname’s capital, noted that 55 cubic meters of equipment ‘mostly FAMAS rifles and their ammunition’ had been delivered. Press reports note that this equates to around 300 rifles.

POTD: KelTec KSG Deployed By French Police During Riots

Today’s Photo Of The Day features a KelTec KSG shotgun, which I rarely see in the wild, yet they turn up in law enforcement photos from time to time. The photos come from the French Police Nationale’s Facebook page on June 30, 2023. During late June and into July, France mobilized 45,000 police officers to combat the violent riots in cities across the country after a 17-year-old immigrant was killed during a traffic stop. During this mobilization, more than 2000 rioters were arrested over five days, and over 200 officers were injured as of the time of this writing.

Newly Imported French FR F2 Sniper Rifles Available In The U.S.

A batch of fully functional French FR F2 sniper rifles has recently been imported into the United States by Navy Arms, and are available through EuroOptic.com, and Navy Arms’ affiliate, Old Western Scrounger. The less than traditional-looking French FR F2 rifles were all decommissioned by France and have seen some use, so the prices will vary if you check out Old Western Scrounger’s website, whereas EuroOptic’s lot has a fixed price. The FR F2 is the 7.62x51mm version of France’s FR F1 sniper rifle designed for the 7.5x54mm French cartridge, and the F2 features a thermal sleeve that was designed to reduce mirage for the shooter and heat signature from the enemy. French Armed Forces Select The Benelli Supernova Shotgun

Beretta Defense recently announced that the whole Armed Forces of France have adopted the Benelli Supernova 12 guage shotgun in several configurations, making the Supernova the standard issue shotgun of the French military. Benelli will have a seven-year contract to produce the Supernova shotguns, with a contracted cost of €4,500,000. The convertible Benelli M3 (capable of both pump-action and semi-auto) shotgun is already in use in special French Army units, but the Benelli Supernova had to go through its own testing process, which was reportedly “severe,” but undisclosed at this time. Christophe Bannier, Director of military and law enforcement sales for Beretta Defense is quoted below.

Ever since photography was invented in the early 1800s, it has been a medium of limitless possibilities. Today most people have at least a smartphone to capture what’s going on around, and the professionals use even more advanced cameras and optics. At TFB we’ve been running our Photo Of The Day for years, where we share the best photos with firearms. Today we’re looking at images from the  35e régiment d’infanterie in France. The images are from Operation Sentinel in Dijon, France. We see a combination of the soon-to-be-phased-out bullpup FAMAS and the new Heckler & Koch HK416F as the soldier patrol the streets.

POTD: French Marine Commando Snipers with Accuracy International

We call this POTD, short for Photo Of The Day, and it is our daily article series where we go to great lengths trying to find the most interesting pictures for you out there.
