I had the opportunity to visit with Dustin Knutson, General Manager at Boyds. If you’ve never seen one of their stocks (or some of their work) I highly recommend visiting their website and checking out their offerings.

Their goal is to build a stock for your rifle in five days for about $100. Their website lists a staggering number of products they can build a stock (or grip) for (and they state over 100,000 makes and models for under $100). The stocks are shaped from a laminate in basically any color combo you could conceive, then are machined into shape, finally being hand finished by one of their employees.

A couple of their new interesting products are their adjustable length stock and an adjustable cheek-weld. The adjustable length stock can be done without tools very rapidly. It simply rotates, you pull it to desired length, then rotate it back. The cheek weld requires a tool, but that is not something you’d generally be changing frequently anyway.

A friend of my swears by their stocks, so it looks like I need to give them a try too.  I really think they give a great distinctive look to a gun.
