CMP Adds Mid-Range Events To National Matches

CMP Adds Mid-Range Events To National Matches

The Civilian Marksmanship Program continues to offer new events and competitions. Hot on the heels of their action pistol program comes a new mid-range rifle match at the National Matches. This match is scheduled for July 31st, 2023.

Mid-range matches are not exactly new for CMP. They were first introduced at the local level in 2021. With a few seasons of local exposure and rules tweaks, the mid-range event is heading for the main stage at the National Matches with the 3×600 course of fire.
The 3×600 event consists of three segments of 20 slow-fire (single-loaded) shots fired at 600 yards. Each segment lasts 22 minutes. All shots are fired from the prone position. Sighter shots are allowed in this event, unlike service rifle events like EIC leg matches. The competition format is very similar to NRA F-Class.

The new mid-range event is part of the Long Range Series, a family of ten matches for individuals and teams. All those matches are fired on the Viale Range at Camp Perry, Ohio, a 1,000-yard range. Interested shooters can register for this match, or for any of the other long-range National Match events at the CMP website here.

    From the CMP:
The Civilian Marksmanship Program’s (CMP) National Long Range series will again be fired July 31 through Aug. 5, 2023, highlighted by a new event. For the first time, 2023’s schedule will include a Mid-Range 3×600 Match – 20 shots slow prone at 600 yards in 22-minute block times. The addition is just the beginning of CMP’s Mid-Range offerings, with more planned to be implemented in the near future.
