Mental health is a very polarizing subject on its own. Throw in firearms and you’ve got the ingredients for a heated discussion that is guaranteed to end any holiday family dinner in spectacular fashion. However, Michael Sodini, President of Walk the Talk America is attempting to end the stigma surrounding mental health care when it comes to the subject of owning firearms. Today Michael and I discuss his background in the firearms industry and how it lead to him starting up the WTTA. WTTA has seen some explosive growth since its inception and has given him hope that his efforts can save lives by reducing suicides by firearm. Michael’s company currently offers free and anonymous online mental health screening, and familiarization classes for mental health professionals that dispel many of the myths surrounding firearms, familiarize these professionals with live-fire experience on the range, and then how to apply the knowledge they’ve received in their clinical work. WTTA also offers free, anonymous mental health screenings online that should help those curious to see if they might need further resources.

Walk The Talk America believes that improving the quality and availability of mental health resources to gun owners can reduce suicide by firearm.
