Welcome everyone to the 125th edition of ‘Hot Gat or Fudd Crap?’, one of our many series here on TFB. If you’re new to the series, this is where we look at the most obscure firearms that are actually for sale and ask the question – is this Gat a sweet deal or only has a Fudd appeal?  Each week the TFB staff weighs in with their thoughts, but readers get the final say in the poll at the bottom of each article.

In our last edition, our poll showed that you, the readers, decided the SKS Assault Lamp was decorative fudd crap.

At this time the original auction remains up while the SKS awaits a new home (hopefully without small children running around).  We can only hope this dangerously decorative gat can find its way to a new home in the near future.

In this week’s edition of HGFC, we look at a custom biohazard-themed AR-15 chambered in .223/5.56. As is tradition, this carnage-inspired gat is currently up for sale on GunBroker for $799.95 Buy It Now.

Let’s see what the Staff had to say about this week’s offering:

“Hell son, I don’t need fake blood on the stock of my rifle” – Rusty S.

“A waste of a perfectly good LWRC stock” – Matt E.

“This gun is the chick at closing time who thinks she’s an 8 when she’s a 4 at best. Sadly, some drunk jackass will still take her home for some mutual disappointment.” – Will P.

“When rednecks combine Steeler Nation With Zombies. Alone they can be enjoyable but not mixed together with wanton abandonment and poor choices” – Nick C.

“2012 called and wants it’s stupid gun fad back” – Tim C.

The blood spatter paint scheme isn’t something that’s new to this series, nor is the theme.  Color and execution however are a totally different story.  It’s not quite that airsoft orange, but it definitely looks like an off-brand children’s toy.  Overall it’s just a strange mix of good, budget, and knock-off parts to make somewhat of a strange rifle.

Without the paint scheme (and minus the knock-off EOTech) this would be a decent rifle.  Sure you can argue the lower could be nicer, but if this build was assembled properly, I’m sure it’ll run just fine.  Maybe this speaks more towards an overall problem for AR-15s now.  With so many budget or high-end rifles, it’s hard to stand out at either end of the market.  But alas I find myself staring at a prime example of why it’s sometimes better to blend in than stand out.

Maybe I’m wrong (I’m really hoping I’m not), and now is the time to get a just for laughs $800 AR-15.  Or maybe we should all just keep saving up for something a little bit, or a lot bit nicer.  As always though I leave it up to you, the readers, to decide.
