Wheelgun Wednesday: Charter Arms Professional .32 H&R Mag 7-Shot

Wheelgun Wednesday: Charter Arms Professional .32 H&R Mag 7-Shot

When it comes to wheelguns and revolvers we love to discuss the “big headliners” of the industry in Smith & Wesson, Ruger, Taurus, and even some lesser-known companies that are quite high-end like Korth and Manurhin. For whatever reason it might be (and I only notice this when people discuss revolvers), we skip over the more affordable brands when giving wheelguns press coverage. You don’t hear a lot about Heritage Manufacturing Inc (Heritage Mfg) or a company like, say, Charter Arms. Both of which make cheap yet highly serviceable revolvers. They are never showpieces or considered high-end, but that’s OK. These are wheelguns that continue to go BANG! as cheap as their price tag is, and they still get the job done. So, why does Charter Arms get overlooked?… This is a loaded question with no one precise answer, but I am going to simplify my answer and softly turn the mirror back on them: it’s a bit of Charter Arms’ fault. Recently, I stumbled across the Charter Arms Professional on the Charter Arms website. The Charter Arms Professional is a classy, attractive, and slightly improved version that stands out from the litany of snub-nose revolvers currently in their portfolio. The Charter Arms website, once again, only lists 1 Professional model revolver chambered oddly in .32 H&R Magnum, but did you know that Charter Arms manufactures 6 unique Professional models and that it is a completely built-out series?!?!… Yeah, I had no idea until about 1 week ago, and just like you – the well-informed, distinguished readers that you are – I consider myself pretty “tapped into” the revolver market. So, let’s dig into the Charter Arms Professional revolver and its entire series more thoroughly to see what Charter Arms has got goin’ on!

Charter Arms “Professional” .32 H&R Magnum

So, as we mentioned earlier, Charter Arms does list “The Professional” on their website so this specific revolver is not a secret. It dons an Applied Blacknitride+ finish for some kicked-up curb appeal, a pair of select walnut grips, and even improved sights with a LitePipe fiber optic front sight. All of this culminates into a handsome yet affordable carry/duty style revolver as it weighs only a little over 1 Lb (22 ounces, specifically) and it has a street price south of $500. The rest of the specs that we know about can be read below as presented by Charter Arms:

Charter Arms Naming Conventions – “The Professional” Series

So, this is where it is going to get a bit confusing, but hopefully, this can shed some light on what Charter Arms has got cookin’ up their sleeves. Lipseys, as many of you well know, is a firearms distributor to firearm retailers across the United States for both brick ‘n mortar as well as online retailers. Lipseys, in very nice detail on their website, happens to list “The Professional Series” from Charter Arms which was news to me. It displays that Charter Arms makes 6 “Professional” models with Roman numeral naming conventions after the first model. The first revolver is called “The Professional” while consecutive ones deploy a Roman numeral as well (example: The Professional, The Professional II, etc).

    • Series: The Professional Series
    • Models: The Professional, The Professional II, The Professional III, The Professional IV, The Professional V, The Professional VI

The Professional Series as listed on Lipseys.com

We are getting deep into the weeds explaining this whole series that Charter Arms doesn’t have much of any press or details on, but let’s get back to the wheelgun at hand. The first revolver in this series could go by essentially 3 different names, but they will all mean the same thing.

    • The Professional | The Professional I (One) | Professional

This first revolver in .32 H&R Magnum that we have expanded out details on here today I would simply call the Charter Arms Professional. It’s simple, straightforward, and we don’t need to get into numbering until we get further down the line. Unfortunately, we do not have any of these “Professional” revolver models from Charter Arms in our possession (currently) to review for you. So, this can be viewed as a PSA or public service announcement.

On Charter Arms’ own website, they only list this first revolver in the series – The Professional. They do not advertise that there are 5 more revolvers within this apparently expanded lineup. So, if the .32 H&R Magnum happens to be your jam, then this affordable, attractive, and trustworthy wheelgun might be worth diving in on. There are not that many options nowadays for the .32 H&R Magnum cartridge and this appears to be a very respectable offering.

In the coming weeks, we will slowly walk our way down the line of all 6 of Charter Arms’ Professional revolvers so you can see how this unadvertised lineup stacks up to some of the big dogs in the industry or other favorites you might already own. Between all 6 of The Professional revolvers that Charter Arms is crafting, you have the option of a .32 H&R Magnum or .357 Magnum for cartridge offerings. Both of these are stout rounds for defense depending on if you want to go big or small. Until we meet again next week, what do you think? Does this “Professional” series look interesting to you? Enough so that you’d be willing to purchase and carry one? As always, let us know all of your thoughts in the Comments below! We always appreciate your feedback.
