[SHOT Show 2023] PSA's New H and R Retro Rifle Series

Palmetto State Armory recently acquired the Harrington & Richardson brand, and is working with NoDak Spud to make a new series of retro rifles with clone correct features and even historical roll marks. The head of this project is Mike from NoDak Spud, who probably knows more about cloning retro ARs than anybody else in the industry. Hop and Mike had a great conversation at SHOT Show 2023 about the first few guns in the retro series including an M16A1, a 723 style carbine, and a 9mm SMG clone.

Wanting a replica of an 427 Cobra, that I understand.
That some people want steampunk, I understand.
That some people want tube audio amps and vinyl records, I also understand.
Don't understand the desire for Retro ARs at all.

  @marathag Same reason folks like 03s,Garands,Carbines, FALs et all? Not all of us operate operationally nor desire to cosplay. For fun shooting, a 603 is hard to beat.

  @Drewogatory Springfield, Carbines, I get all those reasons, same for all Milsurp.
  I can see replicas when Originals can no longer be had from rarity,, to scratch the itch for shooting a legal StG 44, for example. So I understand PSA doing a clone there.
  Do not see how the new built AR Retros are more 'fun' than any other AR in .223, since it's been a 50 year long road to improve on all the deficiencies of the OG M16 features.
  I could see the Retro if there was some Cosplay/reenacting going on.

  @marathag If you just want to shoot irons, it's hard to beat the older models. Lightweight, great sights, easy to handle. There's also something to be said for the classic look.

  @Ben And all those improvements merely make it a better battle rifle, none of the "shortcomings" even apply to a range toy/ fun gun. Plus the A1 stock and triangular handguards are more comfortable IMO. the 1 in 12 twist works just fine for cheap 55 grain ammo and if you don't need a forward assist, why have one? I also don't need rail space, optics, bipod, light, laser, forward handgrip, etc, etc, etc.

  @marathag There's an element of history or nostalgia to anything "retro," and ARs are no different. They have been around for so many decades that any given configuration can evoke that history, in particular the CAR15 that saw so much variation.
  Ready to feel old? If you were born in the eighties that is now just as long ago as the AR itself when you were born. There's a lot of room in there to hark back to a particular era with a particular build. Personally I am a fan of the "transitional" models for this reason among others.

I hope Nodak brings back their 10/22 parts, like the scope rails with integrated peep sights.
