The Time Taurus Tried to Replace the HK MK23 SOCOM

In 2005 the US Military went looking for a new handgun, and Taurus answered the call with the PT24/7 OSS Tactical. When the Joint Combat Pistol trial was abandoned, Taurus offered the OSS Tactical to the civilian market instead.

The OSS Tactical was a suppressor-ready PT24/7 with an extended slide and barrel. For importing reasons, the civilian version has no threaded barrel, which makes it more of a competition pistol than a tactical pistol. But 15 years ago the word “tactical” had a lot more market cachet, and it takes up less room on the slide.

In today’s episode of TFBTV, Hop shoots the PT24/7 OSS DS Tactical Longslide to see if Taurus could have dethroned Beretta, Colt, and HK.

Taurus can go pound sand. I wrote them off forever when I owned the hammer fired pt845. The decocker failed and allowed the gun to fire with the decocker it self. There was a tiny piece of sheet metal blocking the hammer from slamming down on the firing pin. When that sheet metal sheered off one day I realized very quickly that it would fire the gun when the decocker was used. You could shoot it all day and never touch the tirgger. Taurus gave me the run around for 3 months before agreeing to pay for the shipping there and back for repair. Normally in the case of guns I say you get what you pay for. In the case of Taurus it doesn't matter what you pay, it's junk and a rip-off either way.
