On the one day that Americans should come together as family, Thanksgiving 2020 has made us all feel more alone than ever before. Isolated and restricted, we are all growing weary of the perpetual lack of social interaction that is at the core of who we are as humans. But it’s not just COVID-19 that is keeping us from sitting down at the same table today – we’ve collectively forgotten how to ‘live and let live’ and appreciate our differences. At a time where we all should have been there for each other, we are separated by ideas, beliefs and different visions of the future of a divided nation.

There is massive irony in the today’s football games, America’s greatest spectator sport, being played in empty stands with piped in fake voices cheering for their favorite team. We love our tribal warfare and we’ll take it in any form – social, political and more. The year 2020 has been the perfect storm for creating division. A virus that traps us at home, a political race that draws lines in the sand and an economic crisis that has affected everyone, and has created a massive social depression that lays like a blanket over our entire country, possibly even the world.

Unfortunately, I am not smart enough to offer us a way out of this mess. My only suggestion is to appreciate the good things we all have in our lives and not dwell on the negatives. We collectively need to realize that this year, this pandemic, this political process will end and there is hope for a better life. Hold on to your most sacred beliefs, while also remembering that we are all in this mess together.

As for me, I’m thankful for my family, friends,their health and their prosperity.

I am thankful for all of the men and women who have chosen to fight evil on our behalf both here at home and overseas.

I am thankful for Steve Johnson for creating The Firearm Blog and asking me to be a part of it so many years ago.

I am thankful for the best team anyone could ask for: James, Hrachya, Matt, Adam, Miles, Rusty, Nick, Austin, Luke, Ben, Giorgio, Hop, Ryan, Doug, James B., Stephen, Vlad, Ray, Eric, Sam, Will, Matt E., Mike, Nic and of course Doc.
