If you’re in the long-range precision shooting game, by now you’re likely to be well familiar with 6.5 Creed. Designed by Hornady for Creedmoor Sports in 2007, the 6.5 Creedmoor is essentially a necked down .30 TC. A few years ago, USSOCOM (i.e. US Special Operations Command) performed a comparison test between several long-range rounds, including 6.5 Creedmoor, using SR-25, M110A1 SDMR, and Mk 20 SCAR rifles. They found that 6.5 Creed outperformed the rest – including the well-established 7.62x51mm NATO – by approximately doubling hit probability at 1000 meters, increasing effective range by almost half, negating about a third of wind drift, and doing all of this with less recoil than the 7.62×51. FN also makes an Mk48 light machine gun in this caliber, and it has also found a good deal of popularity in the civilian market among many long-range competitive shooters and some hunters. You can even get a lever-action Henry for it, dubbed the “Long Ranger”. Suffice it to say that 6.5 Creedmoor is here to stay.

In the firearms world, it usually doesn’t take long for people to start asking, “Can we put a can on it?” With 6.5 Creedmoor, the answer is yes – and ammo manufacturer Chalk 1 Munitions has suppressor shooters’ backs with their line of subsonic 6.5 Creedmoor rounds. Let’s take a look at one of Chalk 1’s subsonic models. Hornady’s aluminum-nosed 135-grain A-Tip projectile is the focus of this particular bolt-action optimized round. The description reads:

Aluminum-Tip Accuracy for the popular 6.5 Creedmoor!

    Bullet Type: Hornady® A-TIP®

What a time to be alive. Hornady’s advanced manufacturing process has allowed us to create the perfect 6.5 Creedmoor subsonic cartridge.

Utilizing Aluminum Tip technology, Hornady Quotes:

    • “Aluminum tip is precision machined and longer than polymer tips which moves the center of gravity and enhances inflight stability.
    • Aeroballistically advanced tip design results in tighter groups and reduced drag variability.
    • Perfect blend of give, tip length, bearing surface and optimized boattail by caliber.”

We combine this with our proven subsonic load data, manufacturing process, and in-house testing to bring you the ultimate subsonic performance at the lowest possible price in its class. Specifically designed with the Ruger Precision Rifle in mind, the Cartridge Overall Length is built to SAAMI specification and will fit in any .308 magazine- from PMAG’s to the standard AR-10. Optimal stability is achieved from rifles with a 1:8″ twist or faster.

It is amazingly quiet and accurate, even at distances up to 300 yards. Perfectly suited for dispatching predators at night or getting those who are younger or unfamiliar with firearms into the shooting sports.

This ammunition is non-cycling, optimized for bolt-action rifle configurations.
