Fire Control Unit is a company focused on taking advantage of the unique abilities of the SIG Sauer P320’s fire control unit. In particular, the heavily teased project dubbed the X03 Chassis. First revealed at SHOT Show 2019, the project aims to take the fire control unit of a SIG P320 and drop it into an AR platform without the need to purchase an additional firearm.

Fire Control Unit first started its work with the XO1 PDW conversion for the SIG P320. Being a drop-in enhancement system for the pistol, much like the CAA MCK Micro Conversion Kit. However, they’re now attempting to take it a step further with the X03 project by taking the fire control unit and dropping it into an AR platform.

The X01 In Action

Normally an AR lower is what is considered to be the “firearm” portion of the rifle as is the fire control unit of the P320. However, the X03 project will include a 90% cross-compatible chassis which will not be considered a firearm according to the company.

While this project has been just a concept, recently the companies Instagram page posted a live-fire demonstration of the X03 Chassis in action, check it out below:

If the concept works, this means that with the simple purchase of a pistol you can make an easy conversion from 9mm to 5.56 without having to go through multiple background checks. There still has not been any confirmed release date and the X03 chassis can still be considered in its prototype stages. I am personally excited to see this project come to fruition
