[SHOT Show 2019] Desert Tech Revamps the SRS Rifle

The biggest news at Desert Tech this year was that the bolt action SRS rifle has now been updated to an “SRS A2” configuration. The company engineers took some time to look at the configuration of the rifle and were able to take almost two pounds off the weight in some cases. Primarily this meant changes to the chassis of the rifle, while still maintain the same bolt and barrel. Some of the changes made are the handguard design, allowing interchangable handguards so users can have shorter or longer versions. Another large change was the barrel clamping method which Desert Tech claims that it increases accuracy by 30-percent because of how it holds the barrel in place.

For current SRS rifle owners, this means that they can purchase the new chassis and simply fit their original bolt and barrel into it, without having to repurchase a new rifle. MSRP is between $4000-$4500 depending on barrel length and caliber.

Did anyone else note the piece that was missing from the DT 5.56mm bullpup being fired?

Where was the forward ejection mechanism?

Was it left off because leaving it off improves reliability? Or was it left off for range safety reasons?

@gunsandrockets That’s correct. The chute (and clip to hold the spent case in the chute) is what’s missing. The ejector mechanism is part of the opposite cover.

Note that the bolt or bolt carrier is what actually pushes the spent case forward in the chute and out of the rifle.

We seem to just be debating the meaning of words. The ejector is the scissor mechanism that actually kicks the spent brass out of the extractor holding it to the bolt face. The part that’s missing is not the ejector, it’s the chute.

Just to be clear I don't much care for the bull pup design but from the looks of this it confirms my feelings, even the guy in the video had trouble finding the bolt after his first shot and by the looks of it you would be smacking yourself in the face with the bolt just like the guy in the video almost did, it looks as uncomfortable to operate as I thought it would be, for bolt action rifles I'll stick with my traditional designed bolt forward rifles.
