The Polish Army has announced that it will adopt Fabryka Broni “Łucznik” Radom’s pistol, the PR-15, as its new semi-automatic service pistol. The contract for 20,000 pistols was signed on 4th December ordering the new pistols for the Polish Army, Navy, Air Force and Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej (Territorial Forces). The contract is reported to be worth 49 million PLN or $12.9 million.

Way back in November 2017, FB Radom announced that development on the PR-15 (Ragun) had ceased and the product was ready for mass production. Testing and evaluation with the Polish Army began in April with an initial order for 6,500 pistols – most of which went to the Wojska Obrony Terytorialnej.

The PR-15 has been in development since 2009 and is a refinement of the FB MAG-98. It feeds from a 15 round magazine and FB Radom list the aluminium alloy-framed pistol as weighing 695g (1.5lb) unloaded – significantly lighter than the MAG-98, with a 4.3-inch barrel and an overall length of 7.7 inches The MAG-98 was not adopted by the Polish Army, who instead chose the Prexer WIST-94. The new pistol will replace the WIST-94 in service.

2018 is the anniversary of the regaining of Polish Independence in 1918, as such the new pistol has been designated the Vis 100 – a nod back to the famous Radom wz.35 Vis pistol. Last month FB Radom announced the limited run of a special edition wz.35 Vis pistols to commemorate the centennial of independence. First delivery of the new Vis 100 pistols is due in the second half of 2019.
