FN Goes FDE with FNS-9 Compact

FN FNS 9 Compact FDE

FN America announced the addition of a new color to the FNS-9 Compact line. The new guns have a FDE frame with a color matched slide. The company uses a PVD process to apply the color. The new guns will carry a suggested retail price of $599.

The FNS-9 Compact is a striker-fired pistol chambered in 9mm. New FDE guns will match the old ones in terms of capacity and size. So, if the plain black gun fits your hand and holster, the new FDE one will as well. The guns use a 12 round magazine as standard, though they can also run the full size FNS-9 17 round magazines. Ten round magazines are also available for those in states that require more frequent reloads.

My only question is will the popularity of the FDE color wane at some point? We’ve always had black and blued guns. Stainless finishes have also been around for a long time. However, new colors like FDE and OD green are relative new comers.

Personally, I like having a larger color palate from which to choose. However, it kind of feels like FDE may be a bit overplayed. FDE should just be a normal option rather than a new model, if that makes any sense. I look forward to a time where custom ordering of pistols will be a standard thing. For example, you could go online to FN America’s website (or whoever), plug in your preferred Pantone color and it arrives a few days later.

Your thoughts?

The 4 inch FNS-9 with factory Night Sights and no safety is currently $399 at Palmetto State Armory. I got the FNS-40 with Night Sights and no safety for $369 at Palmetto this spring. Positively unbeatable in this price range. Not a single failure yet!

FDE is here to stay...... if your not into that sort of thing, buy the Black or Stainless models!
