Top 5 Most Popular Rifle Calibers – Christensen Arms

    Christensen Arms

Christensen Arms recently sent out an e-mail to all of their customers that lays out some pretty interesting information. All of us may be aware that Christensen Arms sells custom shop quality rifles in preferred long-range calibers for discerning hunters and target shooters. If you had to guess their Top 5 Most Popular calibers though, do you think you could do it?…

Take a moment and make a mental guess…

Even with my small credentials of managing a gun shop and writing about firearms, my guess was incorrect. Hopefully you all fair better than my best estimate.

Before we give you the answer though, this is what Christensen Arms had to say leading up to their findings:

Choosing a Christensen Arms rifle is often the easy part. Selecting the round or caliber that is best suited for your needs can sometimes present a larger challenge. If you’re on the fence, or just curious to know what other people hunt and hit the range with, we’ve put together a quick guide outlining the top 5 most popular bolt-action rifle chamberings we’ve sold over the past year. Don’t fret—whether you choose to follow the crowd or opt for something less conventional you’re still shooting a Christensen Arms firearm.

Many of you may not be entirely surprised to see the 6.5 Creedmoor sitting at the top of this list. If you are looking for calibers that have some true long-range potential behind them then .300 Win Mag and .338 Lapua Mag should not surprise you much either.

The most unusual part about these statistics for me was seeing that .308 Win is barely more popular than 7mm Rem Mag. A Minnesota boy like myself clearly could not guess that 7mm Rem Mag had such a strong following in other parts of the country.

These statistics are skewed a little because this “Top 5” is only from the calibers actually offered by Christensen Arms in their rifles. This is not an end-all list of every caliber imaginable. Although, at the moment, 6.5 Creedmoor would probably still win that contest.
