In one of their recent press releases, SIG Sauer announced the addition of SIG HT hunting 6.5mm Creedmoor loads to their Elite Performance ammunition line. Particularly, they are now offering 6.5 CM Elite Performance cartridges loaded with 120 grain solid copper bullets.
The press release quotes Bud Fini, the Executive Vice President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division and Special Projects, who said:
The 6.5 Creedmoor is one of the hottest loads on the market and is increasingly popular with hunters due to its high ballistic coefficient which allows it to push through wind with less drag, delivering a flat trajectory and minimal recoil
The 120 grain solid copper projectile of SIG HT series is advertised to provide deep penetration and expansion equal to 1.8 times the bullet diameter. In case of the 6.5mm (.264) caliber, you are looking at about .475″ of expanded projectile diameter. Of course, that will vary depending on the barrel length of any particular rifle and the distance at which the target is engaged.
The muzzle velocity of this load is 2,825 fps and the muzzle energy is 2.126 ft-lbs. According to SIG, the cartridge is optimized for feeding in AR pattern rifles. Here is how some of the other features of these cartridges are described in the press release:
SIG HT cartridges are made with premium nickel-plated shell cases, and flash-reduced propellant is used to minimize visible signature while shooting in low-light situations. Premium quality primers are also used to minimize variations in velocity.
The SIG HT ammunition is produced on state-of-the-art loading equipment with electromechanical monitoring for charge weight consistency and geometric conformity.
The MSRP of the SIG 6.5 CM HT cartridges is $36.95 for a box of 20.
Besides the 6.5mm Creedmoor, SIG HT hunting ammunition is also available in the following calibers: .300 Blackout, .223 Remington, .308 Winchester and 300 Win Mag. All SIG Elite Performance cartridges are manufactured in the company’s new ammunition plant in Jacksonville, Arkansas.
Earlier, SIG also released competition loads of 6.5mm Creedmoor cartridge loaded with 140 grain Sierra MatchKing bullets.
