Ceska Zbrojovka has introduced a new version of model 527 rifle called Varmint MTR (Match Target Rifle). The ergonomic stock and heavy profile barrel are designed to make the rifle more accurate and easy to shoot. Although this rifle is primarily dedicated for varmint hunting and target shooting applications, CZ also claims that it is light and handy enough to be carried on a hunting trip, too.
Unlike most other CZ 527 rifles, the Varmint MTR features an oiled stock instead of a lacquered one. The stock is made of Turkish walnut. It has an ergonomic vertical grip with a stippled pattern. An identical pattern is also applied to the forearm. The latter is 55mm (a little over 2″) wide and has a flat bottom portion. The stock is slanted to work better with a rear bag. The rifle also has a rubber buttpad. The length of pull is 350mm (about 14″).
CZ 527 Varmint MTR rifle has a 650mm (25.6″) long heavy profile (20mm barrel diameter at the muzzle) cold hammer forged barrel. It comes chambered in one of the following caliber options: .222 Remington, .223 Remington and 6.5mm Grendel. The twist rates of these caliber options are 1:14″, 1:9″ and 1:8″ respectively. The barrels also feature threaded muzzles (18×1 metric thread pitch) and come with thread protectors.
The action of this rifle is based on the Mauser action scaled down for the shorter cartridges. The rifle is fed from 5-round detachable single stack magazines. The trigger pull weight can be adjusted within the range of 10 to 22 N (2.25 to 5 lbs). The receiver comes with rail sections for mounting scope rings. The rifle lacks any kind of iron sights. CZ 527 Varmint MTR rifle has an overall length of 1,130mm (44.5″) and it weighs 4 kilograms (8 lbs 13 oz).
