A Nic(h)e 9mm: The Ruger SP101 Revolver in 9 Millimeter

In this episode of TFBTV, James has a look at Ruger’s new/old 9mm revolver in the proven SP101 format.

TFB’s managing editor, Pete, was skeptical of the SP101 in 9mm. From his November 2017 article about the “new” 9 mil 101:

“Ruger has just announced a new model of their popular SP101 revolver line. Chambered in 9mm, this new five-shot wheel gun carries rounds normally reserved for Glocks and HiPoints with an MSRP just above $700. An educated guess would put the street price somewhere around $550.

Help me out here: at these prices, why would someone in the market for a new defensive/concealed carry weapon pick the SP101 over semi automatic handguns with higher capacities, lower prices and spare magazines for quick reloads. And before you start, I get the overall allure of wheelguns. But why pick one chambered in a rimless round normally reserved for semiautos when perfectly capable cartridges like .357 Magnum.”

James answers the question “is the 9mm SP101 for you?” in this video. Have a look.
