UNCOVERED: Gen5 Glock 22 With Manual Safety In São Paulo Brazil

    TFB GEN5 GLOCK 22

Before anyone gets too excited about another new GLOCK being announced at next week’s SHOT Show, this Gen5 Glock 22 is not currently bound for the United States. Several of our Brazilian readers sent us some images of a batch of the unique .40 S&W pistols to be evaluated by Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo (PMESP) – Brazil’s largest State Police Force.

Without knowing the exact requirements requested by the PMESP, we are only left to evaluate the images. Obviously, this is a Gen5 Glock 22 chambered in .40S&W, but the addition of an ambidextrous manual safety sets it apart from any other Glock, aside from the MHS submission revealed early last year. A grip plug lanyard loop and frame nose beveling are also present.

Luckily, a specification sheet for the G22 Gen5 AMS / RFID reveals a bit more information, including a hexagonal barrel and a 5.8-pound trigger pull.

Speculation is that this was an agency-specific solicitation for São Paulo and no one has any idea if/when it will appear elsewhere.

Dear TFB, today our police received 10 glock G22 Gen5 For trials, they will be submited by resistence test like 40.000 shots and 6,5 ft drops

Recently Glock was set to provide the Polícia Militar do Estado de São Paulo, PMESP, with a few .40 caliber pistols to be evaluated. A friend of mine, who’s a police officer with the PMESP, sent me pictures of the test handguns which just arrived. It is interesting to note that the pistols have a manual safety on the slide, a lanyard loop on the end of the frame, no finger grooves, and the Gen5 branding machined on the slide of the weapon. I can’t confirm what kind of sights have been installed on the firearm, though.
