Honor Defense Honor Guard Single Stack 9mm

There are seemingly endless options on the market when you are looking for a single stack 9mm, so why choose the Honor Defense Honor Guard? In this episode of TFBTV, Patrick takes the Honor Guard out to the range to find out. The Honor Guard has an impressive list of features like a nicely stippled frame, a stainless steel chassis, replaceable grips, and a takedown that does not require the trigger to be pulled.

  • Needs more Honour.

    • USMC03Vet

      Get outta here, King’s English!

      • plumber576

I wonder how much of it is made from aluminium.

        • PK

It appears to be a polymier frame.

          • plumber576

          • LGonDISQUS

            Bollocks, chap.

      • Anonymoose

They literally started adding Us between Os and Rs right after we split off. It’s just retribution for the Revolution. We Burgerlanders use the true, unadulterated form of English. There’s also their gratuitous use of S instead of Z, pronouncing Z as “Zed” as if it were a word, and their use of “defence,” as if they are removing fences.

        • Just Say’n

          Said the Anonymousse

    • Dan

Damn it I was going to say that. Is there an honor zone on this pistol?

    • Anonymoose
  • USMC03Vet

Loaded chamber indicator? Press checks are so 1980’s.

  • Mmmtacos

As Patrick mentions the “stand-off device” in the upper left corner appears: “Suggested: Top 5 Dumb Gun Products”. Hmm…

    • Patrick R. – Senior Writer

LOL, I need to change that. It was totally unintentional.

    • iksnilol

I think stand-off devices are smart on pocket guns.

  • plumber576

    Honor? I barely know her!

    • Tim

      Well-played, sir.

  • derpmaster

My only real concern with this gun is that it’s made by a tiny company. How long is Honor Defense going to last on the market? They are going to have to sell a ton of these to stay afloat in a market that’s already fully saturated with other choices.

    • Jared Vynn

Well there may be a void in the market with the events surviving Springfield Armory.

      • Anonymoose

Yeah, for replacing the XDS. I’d like one of these in .45 with an extended-grip magazine.

  • Indianasteve

This pistol doesn’t have a slide release. It does have a slide catch.

    • lawbob

I can’t think of any semi-auto with a slide release either.

    • Indianasteve

Patrick, you really shldn’t criticize a gun that doesn’t make it easy for you to use it incorrectly. How did it do after you threw it a couple of times ?

  • Dr. Longfellow Buchenrad

So lets see a single stack face off like we did with the subcompacts a few weeks ago.

    Honor Guard

    • Anonymoose

I think Hickok did a video about this where he compared the “efficiency” of 9mm carry guns, with size, mag capacity, etc, or maybe it was someone else. I don’t remember.

    • Marc

      No Sig p239?

      • Dr. Longfellow Buchenrad

I was thinking specifically striker fired guns, but more is always better. That being said, the P239 is a lot bigger than the other guns mentioned.

I also forgot the Ruger LC9S, but I shot and cleaned one for the first time the other day and I can say Ill never own one. Take down is annoying and its not that great to shoot either.

    • Edeco

Yep, and James should follow my updated volume protocol, filling all inside spaces in the gun with paraffin then sticking it in a graduated cylinder of oil.

Can probably get the wax back out with a hairdryer and a wire brush or by putting it in a turkey frier. No big deal, take like 5 minutes.

  • Dickie

O no a chassis. Steyer gunna get em

  • Dickie

Id take a G43 all day long.

    • ePoch 270

The HG is significantly better than the 43, imo.

  • Mark

As unfair as it may be to Honor Defense I can’t buy this product because of the cringey huge roll mark. Unfortunate since I think it’s so innovative and I’m in need of a single stack 9×19. Do they sell debranded slides?

    • Kelly Jackson

I feel the same way, I like the concept but that name reminds me of the Hitler Youth or something.
      Meine Ehre heißt Treue

    • JLR84

Also my objection with the Springfield XD with “GRIP ZONE”.

    • LGonDISQUS
    • ePoch 270

I’ve shot this gun and handled it a couple times. It is much less pronounced and noticeable in your hands. I don’t know why but it looks so bad on photos, but not so much IRL.

And it shoots really well. Top notch gun. Leaps and bounds above the G43 and Shield. Never shot the 320, so I can’t make a comparison.

      • Slab Rankle

Why is it so much better?

I’m not being sarcastic, just looking for specifics. I know about the modular frame.

        • ePoch 270

Fair question. It’s noticeably more accurate. It has a better, crisper (but longer) trigger reset. The grip and ergonomic way it sits in my hand was much more comfortable. The controls are well placed and easier to use. The modular frame is an exciting concept and you can get the FIST or no FIST frame and swap if desired. Slightly less recoil. Better sights. The orange is very noticeable but not distracting.

That was my take. Some were subjective but having put about 200 through both (and about 75 thru a M&P shield) I recommend it over both of them.

          Hope this helped.

  • Anonymoose

If you shoot someone (in self defense of course) with this, does it count as an “honor killing”?

    • plumber576

    • iksnilol

      astagfirulah, bruzzer.

  • iksnilol

    Honor on your cow, verily.

  • Don Ward

They so need an Oglaf themed variant.

    “Show me your Honor”
    “Your OTHER Honor”

  • ShooterPatBob

Thanks for the great feedback, Patrick. How was the trigger aside from the long reset? I’m now convinced not to buy one of the current models; maybe in a few years they will have a great carry gun.

  • Seth Hill

    “stainless steel chassis”

    Don’t let Steyr know.

  • Just Say’n

“Nice custom Shield ‘ya got there!”
