“Modern” EDC Bag for the “Modern Man” from Steadfast Carry Company

Billed as the carry company for the “Modern Man” the Steadfast Carry Company has been working on products for the modern active lifestyle. Starting off with various interesting key hooks/brass knuckles, the Steadfast Carry Company has expanded into their first EDC wear, the “EDC Type 1601”.

The Type 1601 is a combination bag/case that can be worn as a hip back, used with a shoulder strap for off-body carry, and has provision for future attachment as a “shoulder rig” and to be attached to future Steadfast Carry Company offerings.

The EDC 1601 is not inexpensive. Clocking in at $255, the bag is certainly not the for general IWB carrier. It’s priced as a fashion accessory as much as it is an EDC bag. Fortunately, the 1601 will include a holster insert for one firearm of your choosing. They have insert options from micro .380s to RMR equipped full-size Glock 17s.

The EDC is available now in three color patterns: Olive/Brown, Navy/Chestnut, and Black/Black to fit any outfit. It can be purchased directly from Steadfast Carry Company.

While it’s hard for me to see the utility for my EDC, I do see a place for this for one who lives and works in the bustling metropolis’ across the country. While one could deride this as a “fanny pack” in middle American, I do see a carry utility in those types of areas. I dare say I may like it…

The question is not ‘will it take my MP7?’, but rather ‘what sort of man wears a purse?’

  • JTW

    Murse. “forward thinking” failed.

  • Roadkill

The Maxpedition JK1 is much like these, but a pure belt pouch, and its pretty useful for concealment for someone who has lots of belt pouches already like construction, maintenance, etc.

  • Its a European carryall!

Nice purse, they make those for men?

    • GaryOlson

Yes, it’s called a laptop bag. Shoot and compute capability integrated.

      • Anonymoose

If I could fit my 17″ laptop in there, along with a G17L, that would be perfect…oh wait I already have a normal, cheapo laptop bag I can do that with. Of course off-body carry is stupid unless you have an on-body gun as well.

        • AD

I think that was Gary’s point: just use a laptop bag instead of this.

        • Nocternus

Off body carry isn’t stupid. For some it is the only viable solution available. I myself am not allowed to carry at work or even have a holster on while at work. That coupled with the fact that I am Diabetic and must carry insulin, eye glasses, sun glasses, etc with me. A bag and off body carry make the most sense. People and their preconceived notion of everyone must carry the way I carry is what is stupid. We get it you like to carry on body. Don’t be so quick to judge what others find effective for their carry solution.

    Man bags…..not even once…..

Bender: I wanna be just–like–you. I figure all I need’s a lobotomy and some tights!
    Brian: You wear tights?
Andrew: No I don’t wear tights, I wear the required uniform.
    Brian: Tights.

    Modern Man = Hipster?

    • Nathan Alred

      Gawd I hope not.

  • The Rambling Historian

I can see the utility for times it isn’t easy to carry concealed on body and certainly would blend in perfectly in any American city, college town, etc. Its nice that you could more easily carry a full size or sub-compact instead of being forced to carry a tiny compact, and it looks like the weapon might be easier to access than IWB carrying with a tucked in shirt potentially.

It does come with added complications like being easier for your weapon and other gear to get stolen though.

I’m plenty man enough to not be worried about someone criticizing my “man bag.” I have a “satchel” that I used through college and still take with me since it allows me to easily carry a book, note pad, pens, cell charger, headphones, etc. when I am out and about. It usually just stays in the car unless I expect to have time to kill somewhere.

    • Jared Vynn

I keep extra mags and a backup in my shoulder bag, but I primarily carry it for my diabetic supplies. Big tag identifying it as such will hopefully dissuade theft.

      • pun&gun

I still think fathers of young children have the best excuse for bag-based EDC loadouts. NOBODY wants to steal a diaper bag.

    • Bierstadt54

I considered a satchel for concealed carry, as I too carried one through college and am comfortable carrying one. The deal-killer for me is that I am not going to have a bag on my person at all times, and while I am okay with not always having my carry piece with me I am not going to ever leave an unsecured firearm around.

  • FOC Ewe

    Crye Precision championed “Blend In”

This seems to take it a step further into non-permissive carry enviornments. Personally, I’d rather be dismissed as an innocuous hipster than a Tacti-Cool D-Bag. I wasn’t with CAG/Regiment for a number of reasons and I see no point in LARP’ing my way into being “cool” while in pooblic 😉

    • Jared Vynn

The price point kills it for me, the fairer sex has similar options with greater diversity and a lower price point. I’d rather get a laptop/messenger bag and make my own kydex plate/shell for it.

      • FOC Ewe

Yeah, if it were $100 cheaper it might be viable. I can’t bring myself to spend that much money just to be “accepted” in pooblic.

      • Jack_A_Lope

Any of the Red Rock sling packs offer similar or better function at a tenth of the price. And while the bags are somewhat tactical looking, they aren’t so military looking as this bag is fanny pack looking. I can get an iPad, cords, cell phone accessories, folders, notepads, etc., everything I need for a business meeting, plus an SR9c and a spare mag in a Red Rock Rover. I have two – one I use for business and another that is a ham radio go bag.

  • SpartanGears

This product is unnecessary for edc as long as you don’t wear skinny jeans that cut off circulation to your manhood

  • Vizzini

Great idea. The spectacle of all your friends laughing and your man-purse will totally distract anyone from considering a concealed weapon.

ETA: Also, $255? That’s definitely a designer purse.

  • J.T.

“While one could deride this as a “fanny pack” in middle American”

Middle American here. That’s not a fanny pack, its a purse.

    • WANDERLUST srt

Indeed first thing I thought of was “Man Purse Carry”

  • Nathan Alred

Unrelated to the entire “man purse” issue – the two sets of brass knuckles in the video would probably get you more time in jail than the pistol.

  • Ratcraft

Sweet man purse, or murse to go with my moobs or man boobs.

  • Ark

    Men carry backpacks.

  • Hmmm … brand new concealable pistol, or … man purse. I’ll spend my $255 for something more practical.

  • Lowe0

It looks nice enough to overcome the man bag stigma, but no way am I putting a gun in anything without slash proof straps.

  • Michael Powers

In that price range, might as well by a leather messenger bag.

  • Hoplopfheil

I’m not QUITE metro enough to pull that off.

  • Just Sayin’

Pass! Murse or not, off-body carry is a terrible idea.

(ask someone who left behind their weapon in a bathroom stall, or worse tried to go through TSA forgetting their weapon was in their bag)

    • Nocternus

Did you forget your weapon was in your bag and go through TSA? Have you left your weapon in a bathroom stall? Or perhaps your just proposing hypothetical nonsense. For some off body carry is their only viable solution. Better than leaving it at home in the vault. I could create some other hypothetical scenario’s not backed up by actual facts to refute on body carry but I am not so simple minded as to dismiss others choice of carry system.

  • Uniform223

Because you can’t conceal carry when you where skinny jeans/pants…

    • mazkact

Seems like a lot of guys mistook the term “getting into to her pants”.

  • conrad

James needs to review it, till he does I’ll hold off on the purchase.

  • Graysailor

Just stupid really. And carrying your wallet in it too? That’s even dumber. I guess as a street smart world traveler let me give you the scenario. You are walking down a charming street and some 20 year old ragamuffin blows by you with a knife and rips that bag right off your arms and is gone before you can say ‘wtf’. I’ve seen it lots of times. Money belt, pack your heat close to your body, wallet in front pocket, knife in boot. Done.

    • pun&gun

How practical is a boot knife, really? Seems like accessing it would be problematic regardless of whether you were about to use it as a tool or as a weapon.

  • Kekistani

It’s got an extra pouch for your balls.

  • Kekistani

    Approved by Caitlyn Jenner!

  • Raptor Fred
  • pun&gun

The construction looks nice, but that price is ridiculous, especially for the size. I could almost get one of ITS Tactical’s discreet messenger bags for that much money, and in addition to looking hella more masculine, that would carry a lot more and pass as a laptop bag.

  • mazkact

No No No NO NO and HELL NO.

  • mazkact

    I’d don a 511 tactical kilt and use a leg holster before I carried a purse :).
