Springfield XD Mod 2 Tactical: An Updated Modern Classic

The Springfield XD Mod 2 Tactical is an updated version of the classic Croation made XD (previously known as the HS2000) in a longer form factor geared towards the practical/tactical style of shooter. In this episode, Patrick takes both the 9mm and the .45 ACP versions out to the range to see how much of an improvement over the originals was made with the GRIPZONE! Will he like it? Watch and see.

Picked one up in 9mm a few weeks ago. Just put 150 rounds through it today. My new favorite handgun!

  • Lew Siffer

Why is it that everyone I know that owns a Springfield XD says he loves it…but then always carries his Glock in the field? OK, so it’s only two people, but you get the idea…

    • Goosey

El-Ay-Vee has been quoted as saying XD’s are “junk that Bubba buys for cheap and goes to the dump and shoots rats with”, so true operators will never be seen with one. ZOMG a grip safety! Too much drag!

      • mcjagermech

grip safetys are too complex !!11!11

        • javierjuanmanuel

They will get you killed on xd, but work great on 1911, and hk p7.

      • Dan

EL-Ay-Vee looks like every bubba I see around here. Complete with the smell of cooking oil he uses deep fry his glock

    • GD Ajax

Because some armorers have sticks up their butts about that kind of thing.

  • Richie F

I have an XD-M 9mm and I love it. Only malfunction I ever had was using 115gr crappy overpriced range ammo, and that was only a failure to lock back the slide on last round because of a lack of recoil energy

  • jerry young

My EDC is the XD Mod2 9mm 4′ barrel, I have smaller framed guns I carried before but none as good as the XD, it shoots and performs well, conceals well using an IWB holster, I have had no problems with mine and I hardly know it’s there, I have thought about getting one in .45 but my only complaint is the capacity, I carried a Colt 1911 for my time in the Army and absolutely think there is no better gun but after shooting my sons 1911 Springfield .45 I started buying Springfield, I had talked about maybe getting one before but shooting his sold me

  • Bill

I don’t have an XD, but 5 inch guns like the M&P Pro and GLOCK whatevernumberitis just rock. I guess I’m biased being a 1911 weenie.

  • valorius

I’ve never been a fan of the styling of these pistols.

  • gordon

Patrick must be a bit young to think that something only 18 years old is a ‘classic’.

  • Dickie

Was that van pulling up at the end his mom picking him up?

    • Patrick R. – Senior Writer

Nope. The nice gentleman was giving out free candy. Don’t remember much after that though.

  • Wang Chung Tonight

Phweeew!!! I was beginning to worry that it didn’t have the…………… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/47a43c59a8176fcc7be8552aff15f97f6c71643b720dde3dbae969c5a92311b7.png

    • ozzallos .

LOL. Pre-gripzone XDm .45acp represent, yo.

  • XDs are not classic in any sense of the word. Just no.

  • Stephen Paraski

Better or cheaper than a Glock 17 or 21?

    • Patrick R. – Senior Writer

I am a Glock shooter so I will say no, but some people like them a lot.

      • Hanover Fist

I wouldn’t trade my XD for the world. Glocks don’t feel right in my hands.

In the end, it’s personal preference.

  • WPZ

So, why is this better than the XDm? Or the older XD? What are the differences?

  • Edeco

    Eh, modern competent also-ran.

  • Hoplopfheil

Machining the SA logo must be very time consuming. When they added it to the HS 2000 the price went way up!

    • javierjuanmanuel

That was 15 years ago. Hs had no dealer network, no marketing, no reputation.

You might have noticed the gun was not a success until you added everything SA brought to the table.

      Nice try though.

      • Hoplopfheil

Well you are just the least humorous person I’ve ever talked to.
