Fusion of Old & New – Leather AR-15 Magazine Pouch Options

While the AR-15 and its STANAG-compatible weapons are labeled “Modern Sporting Rifles” (and rightfully so), I see little reason for the modern rifles to completely abandon tradition. Its true that these MSR’s are often seen with a plethora of tactical nylon, but they don’t have to be. Just as the rifles do not always have to be aluminum, steel, and plastic (there are some great wood furniture kits out there), magazine pouches don’t always have to been 1000-denier cloth or Kydex.

Turns out there are a few options for those who enjoy leather wear for their Modern Sporting Rifles.

    Simply Rugged Holsters

Known for a huge variety of leather goods including hoslters, ammo pouches, and other leather-based goods, Simply Rugged offers a fully customized AR-15 magazine pouch. Options include color, border stamping, basket weave, embossing, and various carvings. Base pricing is set at $20 for a belt-mounted option (fits both standard and tactical belts).

Various countries have utilized leather extensively in their combat gear. In fact, most military surplus pouches for the AK-47 are leather. Numerous examples exist that will easily fit the Stanag magazines of various sizes. Typically, they are less than $20 / pouch.

-Czechs used leather pouches for their VZ-58 rifles.
