Using a Rifle To Open Your Beer

Bottle 2

This video was posted back in 2013. The shooter, iainmcgregor8, sets up his bottle of beer in the cup holder of his folding chair. He sets up his rifle some distance away The beer bottle cap has a target attached to it.

Considering the bottle cap opener is affixed 90 degrees to the side, I suspect that it may be a twist style bottle cap. The force of the bullet hitting the opener would twist the bottle cap off rather than prying it up like traditional bottle cap designs.

So, you have to set it up, walk a hundred yards, open the beer, and walk a hundred yards back to get the beer, all while risking the fact that you could pull the shot, break the beer, and have to do it all over again?

    I don’t know, man. I’m too lazy for that…

Australians sometimes like to choose the difficult path in order to be different.

… like being a gun owner in Australia? 🙂

          Good one mate!

I use a bottle opener or a cigarette lighter most of the time. Far more practical. For some of the Belgian-style beers in corked bottles, I don’t need anything. My homebrew I bottle in swing top bottles, because it’s easier, and I don’t need anything for those either. I do quite enjoy a good beer (or ten) after the end of a day of shooting though.

Warning- do not try this at home*.

You can clearly see this is a twistoff.

Like just about all beer in Australia – this appears to be Hahn Super Dry?

    Mmmm… Beer…

I would be ready for another Beer in all of the time spent opening that one ! What’s wrong with using your hand to twist the top off….. ? ? ? ! ! Why waste a perfectly good round ?

I can confirm, through independent study, Blue Moon is a twist off cap.

    • Evan

If you look closely, that isn’t Blue Moon. It’s a brand I’m unfamiliar with, presumably because it’s Australian. And twist offs are lame.

  • politicsbyothermeans

I’ll bet 22 Plinkster could do this without the attachment on the cap.
