2A Armament, known for their ultra-light Balios-lite receiver set and rifle for the intermediate caliber AR-15, has upped the offering to full battle-rifle calibers with their Xanthos-Lite receiver set. The new recevier set, introduced and sold as matched pairs (due to the large variation of specifications within the .308 world) is geared for “large-frame” parts and components (meaning DPMS LR-308 or “Gen-1” components).
The receiver set is compatible with most LR-308 components and is manufactured to the DPMS “High” upper rail height specification. The upper does not feature a forward assist (which this writer personally appreciates), but keeps the dust cover. Where possible, the aluminum is thinned out (but never perforated). Material is left for the selector and anti-rotation pin compatibility.
The Xanthos-Lite is machined from billet 7075-T6 aluminum by 2A Armament Idaho with pockets to ensure maximum weight reduction while maintaining strength for heavy-duty use. Outside the striking exterior, its loaded with features like a screw-in pin bolt release retention (no more roll pins!), a tapered charging handle ramp to eliminate wear marks, tension screw for tight receiver fitment, and directly machined-in T-Marks (great for cerakote lovers, as the marks stay post coloring).
All receivers are bead blasted (meaning nice luster finish) and Type III, Class 2 hard anodized for finish strength.
Those interested can pre-order for $689, with 2A Armament reporting “2-3 weeks out” at the time of this writing. One can also check out a great manufacturing video we posted up previously.
