Watch Keanu Reeves Shoot 3-Gun

Cm8CSe2

To a lot of gun people, “action star” brings to mind flashy but impractical firearms, one-liners, and unfortunately often a painfully phony relationship between the actor and his weapons. However, as the shooting sports have exploded in popularity since 2004, we’ve seen an increase in celebrity personalities joining the fold, or revealing that they were a member all along.

But enough jabber from me, here’s The Matrix and John Wick star Keanu Reeves tearing it up at 3-Gun:

Boy he really cleaned those stages! It looks like Keanu’s a quick shot on set and off, it’s just too bad he didn’t sprinkle his run with puns and one-liners!

If anyone has any doubt that that is in fact Keanu Reeves, this video – apparently shot on the same day – makes it pretty obvious:

There is more on the video above, and Jess Hook, at American Women who Bear Arms.

The list of actors who enjoy the shooting sports – in spite of the anti-gun reputation of Hollywood – is a lot longer than one might think, including not only Reeves, but Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Bruce Willis, and even Whoopie Goldberg.

So, when John Wick: Chapter 2 comes out next year, just remember that the man playing the hitman behind the trigger is a shooter in real life, too!

Until this day I thought bullet time was some special effect…

  • Duhhhhhhhhhhh

    Whoa.

  • Swarf

I don’t shoot or follow 3-gun, so I don’t really have a frame of reference, but that seemed pretty fast.

    • PK

It was. You don’t normally see too many participants both moving at that rate and scoring hits while obeying safety rules. He’s had a lot of practice, evidently.

      • RNF

That safety rules … When he transitions and slings rifle he sweeps everyone behind him…
        Comments on that?

        • raz-0

I don’t htink it is an actual 3-gun match. I think it is training done for John Wick, as IIRC Taran Butler was the trainer, and there are only three clips I’ve seen out there, Him running the stage, this lady, and Taran.

Normally in 3 gun, if you sling it after using it, it’s mag out and empty. You also don’t re-holster hot pistols. I say normally because there are a ton of outlaw matches running on a home brewed set of rules, and I have no idea what they might allow.

          • Good point, raz-0! Thanks for the correction.

          • iksnilol

            WOOOOO

            OUTLAW COUNTRY!

          • gk.price

ALL good points and apparently factual after watching the video – Training for today’s action shooting films requires someone who knows what they’re doing and the mix of “safe” and looking like real combative situations much be a nerve wrenching mindboggle for those trainers – THAT said, Reeves looked smooth and proficient to me, even clearing a “jam” with the SG

        • DIR911911 .

          hands not on the trigger

        • Bill

Sweeping implies the weapon is in hand and off-safe, I’ve fought this out numerous times when it comes to going up a ladder or fast roping: you aren’t muzzling up the guy beneath you because the weapon’s on safe and hands are off. You literally can’t run a single-point, and it happens with two-points, and go vertical without doing that.

  • Phrederick vonBean

Oh crap! I swear I didn’t touch your car or dog!

  • Darhar M.

A lot of money + a lot of free time = Massive amounts of fun & gun range time.

    • Don

Also lots of money and celeb status means he was probably trained by the best.

      • Chief

        Taran butler was who

      • Darhar M.

That is included in the gun range time.

  • Squirreltakular

    That shotgun reload was legit.

    • FightFireJay

      Smooth operator, operating operationally.

      • salty

        smooth operator operating smoothly?

        • Jwedel1231

          Operational smoother, smoothly smoothing.

      • 劉丁丁

        Much tactical, very operator.

    • Mike Lashewitz

I had to watch it again to see that! Yes Impressed!

  • Geoff

    That was impressive.

  • Tassiebush

If my beard wasn’t so much better than his then I’d be feeling really inadequate right now!

    • iksnilol

      You have a beard!?

I guess that’s why it is “TassieBUSH”?

      • Tassiebush

        It’s sorta a triple entendre…

        • iksnilol

Like, the entire country itself is a double entendre.

          Respect.

  • Just looks like some grungy looking dude.

  • nadnerbus

    Definitely not bogus.

  • Chi Wai Shum

It is relieving to know that he does has a hobby, like normal people do.

    • iksnilol

He’s pretty normal as superstars go.

Though he has experienced a lot of crap, maybe that has something to do with it?

      • Mike Lashewitz

We all have to realize that like Houdini the idiot population sometimes does believe that that movie magic is for real and every actor who plays a Kneesonesque role can come under the “gun” of the mind washed masses who actually believe their favorite ‘actor’ is all that and a bag of chips.
It is also perhaps a self preservation tactic just in case the idiots attack.
You know like the gang banger who attacks a Marine because “Oooh he was a marine and I killed him!” factor.
There are people who believe WCW is real and there are those who believe Levar Burton was Kunta Kinte…
Just as there are people who believe Alaska is in the gulf of Mexico because those maps in 3rd grade showed it there…

        • itsmefool

          Points for the “Roots” ref!

  • Ted

You mentioned Whoopi Goldberg as a gun owner but she has shown herself to be far from a gun rights supporter. I have seen clips from the “View” where she has talked against certain guns, certain people, etc. You’re a good gun owner if you do what she does, for the reasons she does. Otherwise, you’re part of the problem.

    • Rock or Something

Agreed. She may personally own a firearm herself, but she is all over the map when it comes to other people owning firearms.

      • Paul Hacker

“The rich are different from you and I.” (F. Scott Fitzgerald).. And what did Earnest Hemingway say in reply? “Yea, they’ve got more money.” And that about sums it up.

    • Big Daddy

      Whoppi is a fudd.

    • DaveP.

Goldberg does what the Party tells her to. If the Party tomorrow announced that they’d open euthanasia booths for aging has-been comedians, she’d cut the ribbon on the first one… and attack as “racist” anyone who said it was a bad idea.

    • USMC03Vet

Standard practice for people that advocate others be controlled. Bloomberg being their king where the king is allowed 12 person armed security detail, but average pleb doesn’t get anything.

    • gk.price

EVERYONE is either part of the problem or part of the solution …. THINK about that

  • David P.

I have always been one that will tell others not to put too much stock into what an actor or actress might say, I mean they do get paid to lie for a living. But I am not opposed to seeing more of the Hollywood types getting into the shooting sports and gun rights. I still wouldn’t base my decisions on what they say but it does help with put a couple low information voters on our side.

    • itsmefool

      This…in spades.

  • Wow. Dude’s a legit machine. He was ripping that course up.

  • BrianZ

So you got these A list celebs who participate and enjoy shooting sports yet they’re silent while their anti colleagues run their mouth’s to the media? I’d like to see them step up!

    • Scott P

Yea the second they do that they might as well kiss their careers goodbye considering how insulated and leftist Hollywood is. You either tow the line or you better have a new job lined up cause you will be blacklisted.

    • A.WChuck

      Tom Selleck stepped up.

      • BrianZ

Yes and so did Charlton Heston (RIP) who was a huge supporter and Pres of NRA but thats only 2of how many. They really need to speak up is all I’m saying.

        • gusto

Brad Pitt has also talked about being a gunowner, him and Angie

Tom cruise to I believe but don’t know how much help that is 😛

          • Suppressed

Vince Vaughn has also very vocally supported 2A.

    • Nashvone

They aren’t silent. The “anti” media doesn’t want to carry their message but will shout from every mountain top when Whoopie says people shouldn’t own an AK-47.

      • BrianZ

Right and that’s the problem. So when Whoopie make her rant to the media someone (eg Brad or Angelina) should open theirs in rebuttal. I’m just saying you gotta fight fire with fire. Step up and be heard in the moment.

        • captainbobby

BrianZ: Read what Nashvone is saying. When a celeb makes an anti-gun statement, the media splashes it. When a celeb makes a pro-gun rebuttal statement the media does not mention it. We do have some celebrities making pro-gun (pro-rights) statements but those don’t make the news by choice of the media.

          • BrianZ

Sorry for the delayed response. So I suspected but didn’t want to believe that the media would trample on their own (1A) right! I new the LA Times is totally antu but most of the other media vehicles? (TV Radio) Sucks!

    • Suppressed

Now I can’t vouch for 100% accuracy of this, but I think it’s *pretty* close:

      • Tassiebush

I’d love a source to confirm the dalai lama because I can think of heaps of people it’d be fun to annoy with that! Usually I just have to settle for saying “gee I wonder why he doesn’t discourage people from self immolation?”
I’d respect him more if he belongs on this list.

        • Suppressed

“If someone is trying to shoot you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun” – His quote. Google “Dalai Lama Gun” to get the complete context of it.

          • Tassiebush

            Cool thanks for that!

  • joe tusgadaro

Yep, that is some legit skills.

  • Mike

I’m 90% sure that’s the a training facility movie stars use to train for movie roles. Same place Will Smith trained.

    • Prax

It’s Taran Butler’s joint in LA. Proximity as much as anything else. If most other pro-level trainers weren’t set up in other states I’m sure you’d see Costa or Haley running celebs through drills, but as it is, Taran’s well placed and knows what he’s doing.

  • A.WChuck

    “Whoa”

  • Bub

Someone sent me a link to this video last night. NICE!!! I’ve seen John Wick a couple times and for an over the top action movie I thought his gun handling was impressive. I even told the better half at the time this guy has done some serious training to get ready for the roll. BTW the wife is a huge fan of action movies, how lucky am I? It’s nice to see an action movie actor these days in the pro-gun camp.

    • iksnilol

Associating with a girl who likes action movies is the reason I only remember the beginning and ending of Die Hard.

      😉

  • Larry Evans

    Keanu “training” Jessica?

More like the other way around unless he’s showing her how to run on walls and shoot upside down.

  • Tritro29

Did anyone checked if the cast list for John Wick was still alive?

  • Tec9

Keanu has stated before that he will support anyone’s gun rights as long as they’re a responsible, law-abiding citizen.

  • Billy Jack

I liked John Wick. Half the appeal was identifying firearms. Looks like the sequel should bring something.

    • Vitor Roma

The other half was ydentifying jiu-jitsu/judo/sambo techniques.

  • TJbrena

    Relevant.

    • gusto

Hemmingway commited suicide with his gun so not that good of a posterboy
Hunter S Thompson was a drug addict (love his writing thou)
Eric Clapton also a known abuser
Manson and Jesse James to IIRC
probalby Joe Perry to being a rocknroller
Nugent has been convicted for hunting crimes has he not? I guess it was not felonies?

Now I am quite pro drug legalization to, even thou I don’t use drugs or alcohol myself (it is the same arguments as for pro-gun stuff) but I thi k drug abuse should be a disqualifying factor in gun ownership, regardless if it is a disease or not it shows poor judgemnt/lack of control issues I don’t want to see in gun owners.

I think you need to be clean for a number of years to be allowed to own guns again, for your sake and others, especially now when drugs are illegal, which means you are in connection with criminals to get your drugs

  • Joe Schmo

    Keanu is a beast.

By the way, I have a really hard time believing some of the entries on the list that was linked to.

  • Budogunner

    Whoa… he knows gun-fu.

  • gusto

that is a volvo, how dare they shoot that?

and how can that Taran who runs around so much, trains as much as I assume a world class shooter needs, still carry around too much fat?

  • 1leggeddog

This was for his movie, John Wick 2, but he did train the same way for John Wick 1 a couple of years back.

This actor is no joke when it comes to training.

  • Joshua Graybill

Wow….. Keanu Reeves just moved up my short list of respected people in Hollywood. I have read a few articles that Chris Pratt is a big hunter/shooter, havent seen any videos though.

  • iksnilol

I don’t think Matrix had anything to do with them wearing coats.

I think it was simple practicality, if you look at the CCTV vids from the school they’re wearing t-shirts. They just wore the coat to hide stuff in before going into the school.

    • Bill

The “Trench Coat Mafia” angle was pretty much discredited, though there are several photos of them so dressed, but not during the attack.

The definitive source, from a non-AAR perspective, is the unimaginatively titled “Columbine,” by Dave Cullen. I understand a newly updated edition was released this month. Like the 9/11 Commission Report, a must-read for every citizen. I wish he’d do an “Aurora” and eventually a “San Bernardino.”

  • Sulaco

Born Canadian, is he a US citizen now? I know in WA state it would be illegal for him to be handed a gun, not where this was shot though, I assume.

    • kevinp2

As far as I know, only Hawaii, Mass and Washington make it difficult for non-citizens to own guns.

      • Sulaco

I think you can add NY, NJ, CA, CO and several others….

  • smalltowndude

    He’ll never work again.

  • gk.price

I now have an entirely new perception of Reeves – He’s good at 3 gun too ….

  • itsmefool

Plus, the dude’s well-known for his motorbike habit…score again!

  • Billca

Now, if he could only act. 😉

  • chuckles

All this is well and good. He trains for movies to attempt to not look like a dork. The truth is, however, he voted for Obama and will vote for Hillary who don’t even try to hide their disdain for the Second Amendment. Nothing worse than millionaire elites that want to take your rights while they play at the range. The underlings don’t need the same toys he has. Same as Boomberg and Soros with 12 man security to go out to eat while supporting politicians with millions to take your right for a boot gun.

  • Shannon Kelman

Watching “John Wick” I knew he was more than the regular Hollywood liberal watching him change stances due to CQB. It seemed like more realism than a regular actor would bring.
