[SHOT 2016] Glock Reception

Last Thursday Glock held its Glock Reception celebrating Glock’s 30 year anniversary in the U.S.

Gaston Glock was unable to attend but made an appearance via pre-recorded video presentation.

The reception had live entertainment and an open bar. Who could ask for more?

With every invitation to this reception was a tear away raffle ticket. The prizes were rather spectacular. The first prize given away was a DJI Phantom Quad Copter. The next prize was a trip for two to the Grand Tetons.

Then they raffled off one of the limited edition engraved Glock 17 with SHOT Show engraved with gold filling. You can find more information of it here on the Glock 30 website.

I was able to get some pics of it on display at the Reception.

They also had the Gaston Glock edition on display with the SHOT Show Glock.

As if raffling a 1 of 30 limited edition Glock wasn’t enough, they raffled off two Indian motorcycles.

Everything that was raffled off… I’d just sell.

    • M.M.D.C.

      Not an Indian fan?

      • KestrelBike

Nothing against them, I just enjoy sportbikes more. I’d trade for one.

  • Dan

Gaston too busy with the mistress to attend his golden goose’s anniversary? What a shame.

    • CanadianShill

      My first thought lol

    • Bill

Gaston wasn’t there, so everybody had a good time.

    • SP mclaughlin

      “No one glocks like Gaston….”

    • Nicholas Chen

Did you notice the amount of liquor bottles on his desk? I did.

  • M.M.D.C.

Guns, booze, bikes and boobs – it’s like a classed up biker bar.

    • Bill

…and once again, no pictures of boobs, just an engraved GLOCK which is like gold-plating a Ford F150.

  • Edeco

The Indian motorcycles seem random, out of step with the Glock aesthetic. I could see them being associated with 1911’s. KTM bikes would make sense w/ Glock.

    • MR

Kind of like the engraving. Like the theme this year was “Stuff you don’t associate with Glock.”

      • Edeco

Yeah, that’s not bugging me as much as it does others, apparently. I mean, I find engraving equally superfluous on 1911s, SAA’s or whatever. So it’s out of place and not my style, but it’s just like “Oh, that again, OK”.

        • Bill

The latent Texan in me like some of it for Barbeque guns, but I’m one of the rare people who prefer engraving on really well blued or casehardened guns, like 1911s or S&W/ Colt revolvers. Nickel or chrome is for New Orleans pimps.

It’s hip and trendy now for agency to have their issued guns laser-engraved with their patch or seal, which is sort of cool until you pull an undercover gig and nobody thinks to give you a sterile gun.

          • ostiariusalpha

Nickel and chrome in themselves aren’t terribly pimptastic without the pearl grips, in fact they’re rather practical and can look quite classy when done right. All pimps prefer the cheap gold plating if they can afford it on their Glawk Foh Tays.

            Not a pimp gun:

          • Bill

The iconic gun that got me into firearms as a kid was the Royal Blue 6-inch Python. Forty plus years later I still haven’t attained my Grail.

          • MR

I think the frame needs some work,to put it into the Barbeque category. Replace the current stippling trend with engraving.

    • Nicholas Chen

Yeah I thought it was odd. I was thinking it would be cooler to just give away more glocks. even just regular non engraved glocks.

      • Insert meme picture of Oprah saying “Glocks for everyone!”

    • Bill

I’d think of a Ural over a KTM. The kind with the powered sidecar. Or maybe a Rokon. Now would a BHP go better with a Triumph Bonneville or a Norton Commando? H&Ks would be BMW, old BMWs would be Walther or Luger.

      • Edeco

The Hi-Power to me corresponds to the HD Sportster; narrow, mixed American and European influences, mixed features from two eras, OK within its normal performance but not rewarding to try to update.

        • Bill

You mean no AMF bowling ball Harleys? The Sportser would be a good fit, but remember it’s got that restricted-capacity peanut tank 😉

      • Halan

Glock is the son of WWII nazism as much as anything else, remember Glock before the pistol made shovels. As such a german bike of the post nazi era would make the most sense.

        • Bill

Hadn’t considered that, maybe an old-school BMW boxer twin?

  • Jeff Smith

Odd that the prize you would least want to win would be the Glock…

    • Nicholas Chen

I wouldnt mind the Glock myself. The Grand Teton vacation does nothing for me. I could use a DJI phantom drone and an Indian Motorcycle though.

      • Jeff Smith

True – I’d love the Glock, but a (presumably) high end vacation, a $1300 drone camera, or a motorcycle all sound pretty phenomenal.

  • MrApple

I’m not interested in all the flash and sparkle. I love my Glock 19 for that very opposite reason.

  • Bart

The engraved Glock makes me laugh. Glocks are great guns. I’ve got a gen 3 Glock 19, and a 22. They are two of my favorite handguns.
Engraving one is equivalent to putting gold hubcaps on a Toyota Camry – just silly.

  • TheNotoriousIUD

    Engraved Glock?
Talk about putting a silk hat on a pig.

    (I love Glocks)

    • M.M.D.C.

      Lipstick on a pig nose:

  • guest

Off-topic: I have yet to see a weapon that is as brutally simple, as reliable and as “to the point” as Glock, when compared to AK.

  • MR

When are they releasing their 1911? That would’ve been the proper time to accent the booth with American motorcycles.

  • Machinegunnertim

Wow, celebrating 30 years of a 35 year old stagnant design. Few other companies could pull that off.

  • hydepark

What an absolutely hideous gun. Hence the open bar perhaps?

  • Doom

ewww, USA on the side of a glock is just wrong…
