Hickok45 YouTube Channel Shut Down

My friend Matt alerted me to this today. YouTube shut down Hickok45’s YouTube channel for “repeated violations of Google’s Policies”. I do not have any further information regarding this. At this moment there is nothing posted on his Facebook page. Hopefully Hickok45 will figure out what the problem is. I know many of us will jump to the “anti-gun” policies of Google. But let’s not make assumptions until it has been verified by Hickok45 himself.

Edit Update:

On December 28, Hickok45 posted this on Facebook. Now there is speculation that Hickok45 pulled the channel himself. I find this hard to believe as he would most likely post a video and something on Facebook alerting his viewers what he is doing.

For those who can’t see the embeded Facebook post, here is what he said.

Again, I’ve tired lots of fixes, but I still cannot comment on YouTube vidoes, reply to comments, post a comment, answer a Private message, etc., on our channel or others. I’ve logged out of Google + and back in, I’ve looked at 3rd Party cookies to make sure it’s unchecked, etc, I’ve used IE instead of Google Chrome, etc. I give up. Comes a point where I just don’t care anymore and do whatever the computer seems to want. Haven’t been able to “Like” a video on YouTube for a year or two. Gave up on firguring that one out, too. smile emoticon Anyway, this is the reason why you never see me reply to comments in recent videos. I can delete comments and block people, but I cannot comment. Maybe if YouTube works out all the bugs one day, I’ll be back with a comment or reply occasionally. Please read video descriptions; that’s the only place I’m able to write anything in YouTube. Thankfully, Facebook actually works.

New Update from Hickok45.

Apparently, Google + is more sensitive about firearms related postings and such. I never use Google+ and did not even realize the videos were being posted over there, I guess. I will keep you posted via Facebook here and the Hickok45andson channel. I have communicated with YouTube via email this morning, and hopefully, we’ll be able to get the channel back up soon. I had just posted a new video.

  • Friend of Tibet

    No!!! yep, Google is anti-gun

    • ExMachina1

Why is Google any more “antigun” than any other tech company? Google still turns up better gun-related content than Bing and as far as gun-related youtube videos hickock45 is pretty dang tame. Betcha it has more to do with something mundane…like revenue flow.

      • hking

Google delisted any gun related items from its shopping results. Bing and others do not. It used to be a great way to find the best price on a part or mag but they killed that off. Hell you can still use it to find the best price on weed grinders and drug paraphernalia but nooooo not guns.

        • MrEllis

You should totally boycott any tech company that doesn’t align with you perfectly. Good luck.

          • hking

Well I never said anything about boycotting a company, those are your words and yours alone. Its a fact that Google censures shopping links, its not up for debate, but its something you just live with.

          • MrEllis

Why do you hate our freedoms?

        • ExMachina1

If I google “AR 15 magazines” I get the same hits on Google as I do on Bing. If you’re saying that they don’t appear under the “Shopping” tab…well, Bing doesn’t HAVE a shopping tab like Google does. So if anything, Bing is anti-shopping not anti gun 😛

        • Cymond

Google changed b their Shopping feature. Note it’s nothing but paid advertisements, not genuine shopping results.

  • Tim U

Unless you’re telling me he’s done something unlike any of his past videos, it is exactly because of his gun videos and google’s policy. Probably enough Bloomberg drones hit “flag” or “report” on him for no other reason.

    • MrEllis

yeah, and the billion other gun videos are untouched, reel in your paranoid.

  • TangledThorns

Nothing posted on his FB page since Jan 2nd. Could be something else going on…

  • NDS

    Drip, drip, drip.

I personally like his videos, and this is nonsense. Has to be “because guns” the guy doesn’t even use profanity… not that bad language is prohibited on YouTube.

    • MrEllis

Yeah, out of the billion gun videos they started with his…

      • NDS

It’s not a conspiracy, I’m sure it’s advertising / sponsor related. Google is a private firm and can do whatever it wants within the law.

I personally miss seeing cigarette livery on F1 cars too, but maybe that’s just me.

        • Nicks87

I agree, there was something about that red and white Marlboro car that was just so intimidating.

          • Christian Green

          • Mystick

An individual trying to sell tobacco – or anything else, for that matter – would have the same Rights. True, a corporation is not, ironically, a “corporate” entity… which is why they are a “corporation” – a label granted by the government to a group of people to act collectively for a given purpose. The modern use of that incorporation has been VASTLY perverted over the past 100 years. Originally, corporations were created to run/build/maintain specific things. Some of these are still around, organizations such as the various Transit Authorities…

    • raz-0

Could be because guns, but it could also be because google doesn’t like the method in which he monetizes his videos. They increasingly don’t like it when you make money without giving them a cut.

  • TheNotoriousIUD

  • Anton Gray Basson

He is one of the few gun channels I subscribe to. He has great content.

    • Anonymoose

I subscribe to a lot of gun channels now, but he was my first.

      • Anton Gray Basson

Lots of them its just full auto and explosions, and that bores me. I think he was my second subscription, Cap and Ball was my first because I have a thing about muzzleloaders.

    • Jay

This must be a technical issue. Since youtube was bought by Google, the early plug and play simplicity of you tube was lost. It became entangled in a maze of conflicting agreements with different companies and browsers, that can generate a multitude of bugs and problems for the casual user.
I’m sure this is what the problem is.
My opinion is that he needs to get professional help, to set his channel and account properly.
Maybe someone in the community can give him a hand. I love his channel.

      • Anton Gray Basson

I was just bummed out that it went down. I dont think he really cares about anything more than having and sharing some fun with guns.

      • Chi Wai Shum

Google has been trying to force people to use Google+ on youtube which lead to Hickok45 initial problem on youtube. I don’t know Google+ policy on guns but he is likely never intentional post things on Google+. It is not really a technical problem but Google’s problem.

  • Holy crap, this sucks!
I hope he gets it worked out.

    • thedonn007

Looks like his youtube channel is back online.

  • Bringitdown

    Hickok 45 is a champion! Free Hickok45!!!

  • Franciscomv

He should move to Full30. I know it doesn’t have all the features YouTube’s got, but with enough viewer support I’m confident it will grow.

    • Damocles

I asked him on his Facebook page once about Full30 and never got a response. Considering his friendship with Military Arms Channel, I’m surprised he hasn’t been on Full30.

      • Tom

I imagine he did not want the hassle of doing multiple uploads etc, but if Google/Youtube are shutting him down (and others will doubtless follow if that is what has happened) then he has nothing to loose by going to full 30.

Google/Youtube need to be careful here, much like Twitter if they begin to be too controlling of content then people will move elsewhere. If that happens they will loose market share and revenue.

      • Rick5555

Full30 has an agreement, that channels have to adhere to. Could be Hickoks main sponsors don’t want him on other channels. Due to arrangements the sponsors have with other entities.

        • Chi Wai Shum

I think Ian has clearly stated that due to his agreement with his sponsors Forgotten Weapon will always be Youtube although he post stuffs a bit earlier on Full30.

          • Franciscomv

I always watch his videos on Full30. I’m sure YouTube brings in more views (and ad reveniew), though. I can understand why his sponsors want him to keep a presence there.

    • MRHapla

Thanks for the Full30 “tip” I did not know what I was missing.

      • Franciscomv

It’s a cool site. I don’t know who owns it, but I like supporting pro-gun companies.

  • Griz

Let us hope it is a stupid advertising policy or something, besides if YouTube starts banning gun videos then only thing left will be fail videos and cat videos.

    • ExMachina1

Undoubtedly it’s related to advertising/revenue flow. He’s probalby the least provocative of the gun channels. I had always wondered how the buds sponsorship worked vis a vis youtubes advertiser policy. Seemed sketchy from the get go.

      • MrEllis

I pretty much can only stomach his videos on a regular basis. He steers away from political commentary for the most part and he seems to be having so much fun when he shoots.

        • Tom

I have too short an attention span to watch most of his videos from start to finish, but I agree along with Mike Bellevue he is probable the least offensive gun guy on Youtube.

If I am going to get all conspiratorial maybe that is the point, its hard to demonise somone like Hickok45 who comes across like a kindly uncle and not some crazed gun nut preparing for the next Ruby Ridge.

          • Griz

Don’t try to watch any TNP videos then, snooze fest!

          • Rick5555

But Nuttin says, that people love his “Feature Length Episodes.” His vids do get boring and fast. Usually, the first 10 minutes is him babbling and patting himself on the back. As well as, how honest he is all the time. Just amazing with these personalities who proclaim they’re gun experts. Have a camera and post to You Tube and you too are a gun expert.

          • Cymond

Somebody must like Button. I don’t know who, but somebody. (I confess, I watched a couple once upon a time.)

          • joe

I only watched one of his video and i still kick myself for the wasted time.

          • Paul White

i’ll search his videos if there’s a specific gun I want to buy to see if he reviewed it. That’s it. otherwise, good lord long winded!

          • MrEllis

I always thought he was pretty humble. I mean he’s basically running a YouTube channel entirely designed to express opinion on a mostly subjective subject. He pretty much tosses in a caveat any time he weighs in on what is best.

          • Tom

I am sure he is a great bloke but frankly I find his presentations terrible, I think I once managed five minutes of him prattling on and that was about it.

          • Rick5555

“…some crazed nut preparing for the next Ruby Ridge.”
So you mean James Yeager? 🙂 I just couldn’t resist. That’s who came to mind when I read your comment.

          • Tom

I have to confess yes that was who I was thinking of but thought it best not to say, still the truth is out now.

    • Anonymoose

You haven’t discovered the great and glorious antifeminist part of youtube, yet, have you?

      • Griz

No doesn’t sound interesting to me either.

      • Yeah, basically the only thing that still somehow manages to offend me is men’s rights activists. I mean, I even did a research paper on how men are underrepresented in gender studies and (as a sidenote) how people who call themselves feminists are often silly asshats, but this… This is like race struggle all over again. The rhetoric sure stays the same.

        • Tom

I think the big problem with MRA is that the loudest voices are often those who have been royaly screwed over and hence are not the most objective and that MRAs are often put into the same category as pick up artists MGTOWs and the like which hardly makes one want to listen. That many of the contributors on places like return of kings often expose views which are at best borderline racist and homophobic and are mostly very juvenile does not help ether.

There is the very wonderful Karen Straughan who is extremely articulate and its clear just wants a fairer society and not interested in one gender being superior.

      • Nicks87

I’m no men’s rights activist but Thomas Sowell, Milo Yiannopoulos and others have proved time and time again that the feminist’s arguments just don’t hold water. Most of the time they just use skewed statistics to get everyone’s blood boiling but can never show any real evidence that women are treated any worse than men. Social Justice Warriors are emotionally driven, illogical weaklings that see injustice around every corner.

      • MrEllis

That’s a special kind of crazy. I always imagine wire hangers were involved in the making of those guys.

  • TVOrZ6dw

I hope everything is OK with Hickok45. Hopefully we will hear from him soon…

  • Cal S.

Wow. He’s been complaining on FB about some trouble he’s been having with YT for a week or so. I guess they’ve been steadily dialing back his privileges and then took the whole enchilada. Hope it gets worked out!

  • Adam Withem

I had bookmarked his cover and concealment video to watch this week… it was “deleted” from my watch list this morning. I thought that was kind of strange since it wasn’t a new video.

  • Some Dude

This is why for years I have been downloading / backing up my favorite YouTube gun channel videos in HD. I recommend that others do the same just in case their favorite content is no longer available.

BTW – I also backup TFB TV

  • Hickok update from his Facebook page

    • ExMachina1

Explains it all. Google+ has an automated filter and he’s probalby been inadvertently posting prohibited content on Google+ for a while now. Hope he can get it fixed easily.

    • Judging by his FB posts quoted here, Mr. Hickok didn’t really delve into the technical details of managing a video channel more than he or his team needed to. So it’s most likely a technical/formal issue like with most strikes and bans really.

      • Jay

Since Google +, Youtube lost it’s original “plug and play” functionality. It became trapped in a maze of conflicting rules and agreements, between companies and browsers, that are harder to manage.
The inability to post comments and reply to private messages is a dead giveaway. I had been chasing enough YouTube bugs from one browser to the other to know this is most likely a technical problem

  • Brion Jordan

If I had to bet , it was due to the video I watched last night of him using one of those oil filter suppressors that can be fabricated by parts sold on Amazon ( gun cleaning solvent traps)
I’d bet he used the proper ATF forms and jumped through all the proper hoops ….it was pretty funny , I LoL’d hard.

    • Spencer

I doubt it. That’s been up for months.

      • Brion Jordan

        I cant find it . . . .

  • Brocus

    Thanks Obama…

  • Sianmink

So his videos were being crossposted on Google+ (not by him) and that SOMEHOW violated policy.

Honestly he should just go to Full30 and just post teasers on YouTube. I think everyone will be happier that way.

    • Spencer

I’m not sure about the current policy, but Google has in the past required people to have a G+ account to use a YouTube account and gives the option(defaulting to true) to post to G+ every time you post(or comment on) a video. It’s plausible he was posting all his gun videos to his G+ page without even knowing it. Of course that still doesn’t explain how G+ violations would lead to a blocked YouTube account. despite all the integration nonsense they are still separate accounts with separate Terms of Service. Closing a YouTube channel for G+ ToS violations doesn’t make any sense to me.

      • Sianmink

So yeah, based on that he was posting to G+ without even knowing it, and ran afoul of G+ policy because Reasons.

  • john huscio

Heard it was ad related……he (Facebook) posted that he was trying to work it out

  • Mister Thomas

Time to abandon YT for full 30

  • MPWS

And here were go again, politics as usual (from side of opposition to Hickok, not his fans).

  • TexTopCat

Maybe we all need to move to “Gun Nation” and get off Face Book and google owned sites.

  • john

  • Alex Garcia

This is why I killed my youtube videos. I didn’t want G+ but they were forcing it on you. Now that Change has knocked a popular youtuber off the system.

  • Christopher Edward Penta

It’s up for me as of noon central.

    • Nicholas Chen

I am not seeing what you are seeing. Got a link?

      • Christopher Edward Penta

        Links sent awaiting your approval.

  • steve

So first Google + demands you sign up despite having a Youtube account without having had Google +, then they impose new rules after their hijack.

    • Edeco

Yep, google’re pests about using one product to promote another, want you to have email, youtube, g+, devices etc accounts all linked. Fine. Annoying but whatever. But then someone clicks “OK” and go nuts on him.

What this tells me is, I can’t just go with all of the google products to get them to behave. Rather, the more one signs on, the more assertive they get. No problem, I understand. I’ll just minimize my google use.

  • tony

The channel is up again!!! 1/6/2016

  • ProperModulation

    It’s back folks

  • Lance

Obama and his liberal fascist strike again!!!!! Tell him Alex to post here on TFB!!!

    • MrEllis

You should take a wildlife refuge and stick it to The Man. It’s what all the cool kids are doing now.

  • Drew Coleman

    Appears to be back up!

  • Anton Gray Basson

    And he is back!!!

  • Daniel M. Ramos

So did google offer any explanation about what violation of their TOS caused the channel to go offline? Honestly I can not fathom what it might have been as he is one of the most down to earth youtuber out there. I don’t think I have ever heard a foul word out of his mouth.

    • Sianmink

It wasn’t Youtube’s, but Google+, likely something about advertising w/gun content, which they ban pretty hard.

      • Daniel M. Ramos

        What the hell? Seriously!?
That makes no sense whatsoever, especially since Google no longer actively promotes G+.

        • Kyle

I assume it is part of their strategy to make sure Google+ becomes a Facebook destroying titan… Oh wait, it isn’t working.

          • Daniel M. Ramos

I thought Google+ had become a total legacy google product that was not being promoted by Google and was just waiting for the final ax. Doesn’t it say something that G+ doesn’t even come on the radar of biggest youtubers? It seems to me that big youtubers simply use twitter. I guess Zuckernet is another possibility, but Zuckernet is famous for allowing the theft of original content.

  • Nicholas Feeley

    It’s back. 🙂

  • thomas

The site is up and working…

  • Andrew Dubya

    Get it trending.

  • A Fascist Corgi

Who cares? Anyone who trusts his reviews is an idiot. He hasn’t given a single negative review of a gun. Not one. He even gave the freaking UTS-15 a glowing review… It’s pretty obvious that he’s rolling around in giant piles of firearm industry cash like Scrooge McDuck.

This also couldn’t happen to a more deserving person since he just loves to ban people from his channel. What goes around, comes around… If you don’t support free speech, then you don’t deserve it yourself.

    • “If you don’t support free speech, then you don’t deserve it yourself.”

Careful. Somebody banning somebody from their channel isn’t any more of an infringement of their free speech than me asking someone preaching conspiracy theories on my lawn to get off my property is infringing on their free speech. On a privately-owned or maintained space, the owner/curator controls what speech is allowed. It’s only a free speech infringement if one wishes to enact legislation to prevent such things from being said in public.

      • Hensley Beuron Garlington

Best, most educated response I’ve seen on here yet. I can’t stand YouTube/Google or Microsoft’s antigun mentalities, but they sure don’t seem to mind movies, videogames, and toys that glorify guns. But, just like its our right tell them they are full of crap, its their right to say what goes on their websites or goes on in their businesses. The only we can ever make them see eye to eye is to literally put our money where our mouth is and throw our support behind projects like Full30, which I just heard about here I think and will now be diving into.

It just bothers me that these same companies like Facebook, Twitter, Google +, YouTube, say they are bastions for free speech and the sharing of ideas when they are more and more becoming safe speech zones for like minded individuals. The internet, because the key players are so anti gun and/or liberal minded, has slowly been grouping people into camps based on shared beliefs instead of “bringing us together, making the world smaller” as it was originally intended. Eventually we will have a conservative “Facebook” like service to compete with the more and more liberal Facebook that currently exist.

Free speech is not as targeted by the government these days as it is by large corporations, that by their nature, are hard to boycott.

    • It’s a channel of his own creation he can ban who he wants. The first amendment doesn’t apply.

      • A Fascist Corgi

Likewise, Google has every right to ban all gun content on the the sites that they own.

  • 5flytyr .

Too bad he must have “offended” the” pc thought police” in the past. Always liked his stuff but they step on us all that make sense in our comments. I noticed any legitimate comments I make on the NYT or WAPO are deleted RIGHT AWAY….

  • MrEllis

Well the fella is back, glad he got that sorted out with The Powers That Be.

  • Adam Pittman

We have the right to bear arms. Why can a private company such as the bakery that wouldn’t bake a gay themed cake be sued for not catering to gays, but this private company can ban channels for portraying them doing legal constitutionally protected things?

I just want the hypocrisy to stop.

  • ExMachina1

    It’s down again (6:40pm CST, 1/8/16)

  • Greg

The channel is down for me on 1-8-16 at 6:40 PM Pacific. WTF 🙁

    • lucusloc

It was up yesterday, but it is down again now. Hickok just posted a new update to his FB page. Looks like Youtube is having issues with its content filters. . .

  • Mazryonh

Why was his channel taken down again? Assuming it gets fixed this time, Hickok45 should get all the youtube capabilities he mentioned he lost back, such as being able to post comments and reply to comments.

There was another popular gun reviewer who was suspended a while back for no known reason, that being “humans4targets.” That reviewer had to make a new channel because the original wasn’t restored.

  • smartacus

we seriously need an alternative to Maotube.

  • ExMachina1

It’s back now. Looks like Google+ might have been to blame both times. Hickok45’s FB page said that this time he went through all of his Google+ postings and removed them.

  • polarisgold

The way some of these companies censor content maybe its time for another video website with a bent toward freedom!! Hate YouTube and gofundme for censoring peoples content….

Google is so terrifyingly liberal and anti free speech (that they disagree with) it’s honestly scary.
