Merkel makes damn nice rifles, that’s an amazing MSRP for a firearm from them!

    • Jsim

When i clicked on the title I was expecting something way over $1000

  • Kelly Jackson

You know how you can tell it’s aimed at American hunters?

    No iron sites

    • 6.5x55Swedish

      And 6.5×55 😀

      • 6.5x55Swedish

Oh, read isn’t… the EU market don’t use that much iron sights either. Most have a x3 scope on their rifles, at least in Sweden. The calibers they offer it in scream EU market to me.

        • Anonymoose

Needs moar 8mm for the EU market.

      • Rabies

Tikka let me down by not offering 6.5×55 in the U.S. I am extremely excited for this rifle.

        • Tassiebush

I’m very surprised to hear that. We get the tikka in that round here in Australia. You’d have single states which would exceed our national market in size.

    • Marc

You can tell by the price tag.

  • TheNotoriousIUD

Finally something I can pass down to my kids because my M-16 will be buried with me.

    • ostiariusalpha

Better booby-trap your casket like a Pharoah, because somebody’s going to try to sneak that off of you. You’ll be holding an airsoft rifle into eternity if your not careful.

      • TheNotoriousIUD

I’m having a claymore wired inside the coffin.

        • Edeco

viking funeral; only sure way to beat would-be grave robbers.

        • Tassiebush

Are there any other grave goods planned? I could do up a USB with DP1-11 on it for you if I outlast you.

          • TheNotoriousIUD

Ill probably just be buried in my truck.
And in my Dallas Cowboys uniform.

  • John Shore

It seems a nice piece of work, but it ‘ain’t no Merkel.’ Everything else they have, such as their double rifles and the KR1 rife, is up there above $2000, continuing on up into the stratosphere. It also looks just a tad ‘German’–Dieter from ‘Sprockets’ would carry one of these.
It’s funny that the ‘bolt action rifle’ link takes you to a Brownell’s page offering a rifle-shaped BBQ lighter. . . for only $9.99, you, too, can have a bolt-action rifle complete with scope. Is this an indication of the R15s build quality?

    • G0rdon_Fr33man

Build quality? Everyone knows Americans opt for lowest bidder 😛

In a market of 800$ AR-15s, everything else is irrelevant 😉

      • John Shore

SOME people LIKE rifles with thin plastic stocks and molded rubbery inserts and air-rifle receivers with triggers with little triggers inside the triggers to trigger the triggers. When they come out with one that can light barbecues, so much the better for a lot of people.
They’re just not my glass of beer, I guess.

    • iksnilol

That BBQ lighter is probably a consequence of the automated adds that TFB has.

      • John Shore

I didn’t mind–it seemed somehow appropriate. I have a Garand lighter already. Maybe a Merkel one’d be nice, too.

    • Marc

Merkel has a state of the art machine park and they’re putting it to use. They’re not only the producers of bespoke break actions anymore.

      • John Shore

So, Holland & Holland should start building rifles or shotguns that retail for well under a grand? Would they still be Holland & Hollands?

  • CrankyFool

I’m incredibly impressed that at the same time that she’s governing all of Germany, Merkel has found the time to release a new rifle. Talk about renaissance woman!

    • Secundius

      @ CrankyFool.

The Gun Maker “Merkel” and Chancellor Angela Merkel ARE NOT RELATED to EACH OTHER, in Any WAY, SHAPE, FORM, or MARRIAGE…

  • A Merkel rifle priced under a grand? I knew something was up with the blood moon…

  • DrewN

Huh, I love me some 9.3 x 62. For $800 MSRP I might very well give one of these a home.

  • Southpaw89

A very attractive rifle, I look forward to a review on these.

    • Edeco

Yep, I’m usually crazy about Teutonic industrial design, but that pistol grip on the synthetic one is wicked.

  • Louis Marschalko

Change the name! Who wants a gun named after that beetch! Sure, it’s an old name, but what do you think of when you hear m – e – r – k – e – l?

    • Tassiebush

      It’s not named after her.

      • Louis Marschalko

I know that. Merkel once stood for high end sporting arms. What do you think Europeans think of now when they hear that name? She is so cucked!

    • 5flytyr .

I think of top Shelf shotguns/Drillings as in Gerbruder-Merkel….

      • Louis Marschalko

I was thinking “Angela” – Destroyer of Nations.

        • iksnilol

What’s wrong with Merkel? If anything she has helped Germany, not destroyed it. Oh sure, the neo-nazis whine because she isn’t supportive of them. And I have reasons to suspect you are one of them.

          • He is and he is banned. His little icon is a white supremacist flag. Not welcome here ever!

          • iksnilol

I knew it was familiar, searched with the image. First result is for a Hungarian neonazi party.

I’ll just have to be content with me guessing correctly.

          • Edeco

lol, I thought it was a chaos symbol albeit with fewer than the usual number of arrows.

          • Secundius

            @ iksnilol.

As a “By-the-Way” Angela Merkel and Merkel Firearms have NO ASSOCIATION with each other. In ANYWAY, SHAPE, FORM or MARRIAGE…

          • iksnilol

I thought everbody knew that? It is pretty obvious that they aren’t related.

          • Secundius

            @ iksnilol.

After reading some of the Comments, NOT Everybody. Or maybe they just didn’t get the Company Internet Memo…

    • El Duderino

Yeah, when she’s not busy running Germany she cranks out a few rifles on her lathe. Cool chick!

    • Kovacs Jeno

      Azert a nyilaskeresztert elvitetne Angela!

For that Hungarian nazi symbol you would be arrested by Angela’s Polizei.

      • And banned from here!

        • Kovacs Jeno

Thanks! The public use of this ugly symbol is punishable with imprisonment in Hungary. The most hated regime of the Hungarian history.

      • uisconfruzed

        Was that the arrow cross?
I had to look it up, I’ve never heard of them.

  • FightFireJay

    R15? Doesn’t Remington make an “R15”?

Cease and desist letter threatening litigation in 5, 4, 3, 2…

    • Louis Marschalko

I thought it was R51, dunno! Found it!
      R51 9mm pistol by Remington.

      • Dan

I think he’s right there was an R15 AR style rifle aimed at hunting.

    • R51—- pistol
R15 —- rifle is a Remington product also

  • iksnilol

Hope these will be available in Norway. It would be a nice starter gat, especially if I don’t want to butcher a sporterized Mauser or something. Hopefully they make a 10 round magazine for it.

  • Sierra

This riffle is sold in Europe since 2012 now under the name Jaeger 10 from HAENEL made in Suhl in Merkel plant. Haenel is an old german brand that Merkel reactivated to launch economic products and to avoid to associate it with the name Merkel. They always announce Haenel from Suhl Arms Alliance. Quality is ok now but they faced many issues at the beginning. As always with Merkel since they belong to Tawazun, they launch products too fast and then facing many recals and updates : Helix, Caracal and express riffle Jaeger 811…

  • Secundius

    @ Jakob.

AND WHAT IF HE IS? Angela Merkek, ISN’T…
