Magpul Ronin 47 Motorcycle

Jay Leno interviews Mike Mayberry, Magpul co-owner and VP of Engineering, about the Magpul Ronin 47 bike they introduced at SHOT Show in 2010. The Ronin only went into limited production last year. The Ronin project began when  Harley-Davidson announced they were ending the Buell brand. They purchased fifty Buell 1125 motorcycles from dealerships liquidating their Buell inventory and warehoused them. The first three were used for testing their Ronin concept and the remaining 47 are being used to build the Ronin.

    If Magpul doesn’t make motorcycle saddlebags, clothing and accessories for pistols, rifles, submachine guns and swords, then they will have completely missed the point of their own marketing.

    As it stands, this is just another bullet bike.

    Shouldn’t have chosen Buells’. They too angry and nit picky bikes. Should chosen like a Honda CBR engine or Kawasaki Ninja Engine

      No, they should not have. Thumping American muscle is so much better than a buzzing rice burner.

        Better only for the ego as performance wise the Thumping American muscle suffers in every field against Japanese or European offers.
        Erik Buell knew that and he didn’t bother developing a bike on the liquid cooled H&D engine, choosing a not-so-American Rotax for his highest performance bikes.
        That being said, I love some old Buell designs (XB12S especially).

          Yeah, me too!
          But, IMO he screwed up with his hard-headed view of putting tank in the frame; it has lots of disadvantage. There were similar attempts with integrated frames in past, one of them being Seelley. None of that worked

            Funny, it seems to work fine in my bike, and about 65,000 other XB series Buells. Plus how ever many liquid cooled bikes were made.

          Actually much of the engine design came from Buell, but they didn’t have the manufacturing capabilities.

          And, thanks, I’ll take almost any v-twin or triple for the street before I’ll take a 4 cylinder. Race track is a different matter. I’d rather have the power low for the street, where I’ll actually be using it.

  • Awesome! I have a Buell 1125cr (the exact bike Steve used as the title photo) and love it. Great bikes with a nice Rotax Helicon EFI engine (departure from previous Buell bikes that used Harley air-cooled engies).

      Do not drop it!
      You make hole in your tank/frame and nobody will fix it – and 25 grand is blown up!
      Even those frames are NOT made in the US; they are Italian.

        Actually, they can be aluminum welded and fixed. Several owners have done just that. At some point in the production (not sure when) they did move frame production to the US.

        Filed for asset protection not too long ago. His WSBK team had to quit the competition. Not that they were very competitive anyways, unfortunately.

          Yup. He also sold his stake in Hero motorcycles. That’s the end of Buell era. This is shame because he was the only hope for American sports bike. Gone by wind!
          Another such wet dream is Motus. Do they sell with $50k price tag? I do not think so. All you’ve got left is Hog.
          How does it relate to guns? Oh well, machinery is same, no matter what is the application!

            Motus is actually a very interesting and brave company… starting a small motorcycle company by designing a new engine takes an awful amount of courage… and it reflects in the final price: $31k or $37k for the R, definitely high, but not 50.
