California Competition Works

A friend recommended that I stop by California Competition Works as I have recently been dabbling in 3-Gun and they have a lot of equipment specifically for it.

They were showcasing three new products they for SHOT: the LE-3 Shot Shell Carrier with Tek-Lok, the Terminator-2 Muzzle Brake, and the Tandem Tactical Stripper (I know we were in Vegas–don’t confuse this with anything other than a shot shell carrier).

The LE-3 is a hard composite shot shell carrier for 3 12 gauge shells at 2-3/4″. The Tek-Lok is the Blade-Tech product that is making its way around as the belt attachment system for a number of manufacturers.

The Terminator-2 Muzzle Brake is for 10/22 barrels (or like .920-.926 threaded barrels). The threaded area is inside a shrouded lip so that it looks more seamless when mated to the barrel.

Last the Tandem Tactical Stripper is a multi-use carrier. It can hold up to 6 shot shells, or you can pop out the spring and seat a PMag (or like). This is definitely more of a 3-Gun product.

Tom is a former Navy Corpsman that spent some time bumbling around the deserts of Iraq with a Marine Recon unit, kicking in tent flaps and harassing sheep. Prior to that he was a paramedic somewhere in DFW, also doing some Executive Protection work between shifts. Now that those exciting days are behind him, he has embraced his inner “Warrior Hippie” and assaults 14er in his sandals and beard, or engages in rucking adventure challenges while consuming craft beer. To fund these adventures, he writes medical software and builds websites and mobile apps. His latest venture is as one of the founders of; a search engine for all things gun related. He hopes that his posts will help you find solid gear that will survive whatever you can throw at it–he is known (in certain circles) for his curse…ahem, ability…to find the breaking point of anything.

can Cali even do 3-gun? or IPSC? with all the rules about magazines etc etc?

    • Vitsaus

Are you kidding? Out here everyone’s gun is a race gun, every AR is tac’ed out high speed low drag. Nothing but the most expensive optics, rails, grips, latest and greatest… we just have 10 round mags that don’t drop free from our guns is all. We overcompensate like no one’s business.

Californian here. Can confirm – my optics have optics.

      • Gotta spec out what you can eh?

Honest question from a non-native English speaker: is it muzzke brake or muzzle break? I often see both used interchangeably.

    • Doc Rader

It’s “Brake”. I’m just an idiot sometimes. And its an easy thing to scan across and miss “spelling-wise”. I should create an auto text snippet to replace it in context.

      • Phillip Cooper

Prior comment re “stupid english speakers” not directed at you, for the record…

I am curious about this “auto text snippet” thing you mention, however. What would that entail? : puts on curious IT guy hat :

        • Doc Rader

Ha! No worries. It’s just sloppy on my part–I should know better.

On OSX (yes, I use a Mac) you can define shortcuts that will be auto expanded when typed. So I could define “mubr” to expand to “muzzle brake”. I’m sure there is a windows equivalent app– I just wouldn’t know what it is.

Muzzle Break. k is next to l on the standard qwerty style keyboard, so it’s generally assumed to be a typing error and mostly ignored. Forum posts and such are likely to just leave it uncorrected but anything even semi-professional will correct it quickly if it does slip through into a public post.

    • Phillip Cooper

It’s “brake”. Most native English speakers are too damn stupid to know their own language.

Present OP and company of course excluded. Except maybe for me. 😉

  • I prefer to make my way to Vegas when it comes to Tandem Strippers. If they’re tactical all the better.

  • Brandon Davis

    Don’t break your brake!

    • Doc Rader

      Sigh. I did it again… :/
