Paki Tape Available from Echo Nine Three

E93-Paki-Tape

Having traveled to the far-east, India, and Mid-East often I run across all sorts of weaponry. Often overseas, I saw brightly-colored AK’s, INSAS’, and a few M-series weapons sprinkled in. Not knowing the local language or wanting to be detained for approaching a security guard awkwardly, I was left wondering the source of festive adornments.

My sincere thanks to Jerking the Trigger and Echo Nine Three. It turns out the material is called “Paki Tape” and is in common use outside the United States to give weapons a bit of “flair.”

You can pick up rolls of it for $7.95 through Echo Nine Three’s website.

Not that I would ever “decorate” one of my guns with brightly colored tape I can’t help but to like this Paki tape. It’s one of those things that you just can’t help but to find cool or interesting even if you’d never use it yourself.

  • JumpIf NotZero

    lol, no.

  • Christian Hedegaard-Schou

Isn’t this the same sort of stuff that they use to wrap bike handlebars and tennis rackets and hockey sticks and stuff?

    • Fred Johnson

It sure made me think of tennis racket grip tape at first glance, too.

  • schizuki

It’s camo to blend in with their buses.

  • Hunter57dor

so, supposing my name was bubba and actually wanted to do this, why not just get colored electrical tape from home depot for 60 cents a roll?

    • sianmink

Electrical tape is the worst thing and you should never use it for any reason on anything.

      • JumpIf NotZero

Never use it for any reason on anything….. I’m an EE who has used miles of the stuff so I’m going to be VERY interested in the explanation for this!

        Gooooo on….

        • sianmink

LOL. I mean outside of actual electrical applications.
it’s slick, not durable, leaves a horrible residue, stretchy when you don’t want it to be, I know there’s people who swear by the stuff but 9 times out of 10 there’s some other tape that will do a better job and not make you swear like a sailor when it’s time to take it off. the 1 out of 10 is when you’re wrapping it around wire bits.

          • JumpIf NotZero

Ah. Well then yea I agree with that. It was the -anything- that interested me. I was hoping for a anti-electrician. :)

          • sianmink

            XD Sorry to disappoint.

          • Todd S

            I’m anti-electrician! Electron movers! ;)

          • iksnilol

Electrical tape is awesome, carry a roll with me 18/7. Easy to wrap around things for hasty repairs (the added stretchiness helps).

A bit off topic but gotta ask, anyone got a source for NBC tape? Or at least 100 mph tape?

          • Hunter57dor

don’t waste your time/money on 100 mph tape.

Nashua contractor grade ducttape works wonders.

          • Cymond

I admit, the durability issue can be a problem, and the residue sucks, but I LIKE the stretchy aspect. It provides compression and lets me wrap tightly or loosely. It stretches to meet contours, and can be applied without slack or folds. It’s like the ‘Ace bandage’ of tape!

          • Hunter57dor

Not sure where you are buying tape, mine is plenty durable.

Won’t argue about teh residue though… yuck.
I wonder if this paki tape stuff has that same residue.

at any rate, one should rethink their life before resorting to tape for their firearms.

  • iksnilol

Okay, any specs. What material, how much adhesive, etc.?

I can’t be the only tape afficionado here.

Also, what color combo would one recommend that gives flair without stickibg out like a sore thumb? I was thinking about dark gray and dark blue, similar to the laminate stocks.

    • Steve (TFB Editor)

Tape, adhesives, solvents (gun and non-gun), oils, grease and every other gun cleaning-related chemical aficionado here

  • suchumski

    do they tape the bulets?

  • Mark

Is that the ‘official’ name of that stuff? From the way my Indian and Pakistani-American friends used the word I used to think it was a nickname for pakistani like ‘brit’. I later found out that it’s generally used as an ethnic slur, but among some younger people it’s sometimes an ‘our word’ that they are reclaiming/adopting to fight the pejorative sense of it. Just thought I’d check in.

    • http://www.thefirearmblog.com/ Nathan S. ” Staff Writer, TFB”

I have never heard the term in a negative connotation even in India, so we opted not to censor it.

I have only heard it as short-speak for “Pakistanis” like we use the word “Afgani’s” or “Brits” as you pointed out.

      • ChuckyTee

The Brits use it for a slur. Kinda like the N bomb. And the people in India tend to not like the Pakistani people, could be they would not shoot you straight on this…

        • iksnilol

It is also an ethnic slur in Scandinavia, can confirm that.

      • clinton notestine

yeah my brit family has used Paki in a way as to be like saying the n word.

        • Brandon Whosville

who gives a shit? you don’t even have guns in the uk. much less have a need for gun accessories over there. Everyone from the UK needs to be banned from this blog.

          • Callum King-Underwood

Actually we can. Oh the hypocrisy in you calling us all idiots. Go back to your stinking little trailer park and troll someone else while you fuck your daughters or whatever degenerate activity it is you enjoy

          • Brandon Whosville

Well, if i told you my real last name you’d see I’m british. Fucking dipshits. ahh i love it. And yes, all americans live in trailer parks! Richest country on the planet, but its chock full of sheep raping inbreds with no mental capacity! LOL Typical brit logic. Keep talking man, you are an exemplar of why everyone worth a fuck left your shitty little island!!

      • Jonathan Ferguson

Can confirm that it’s a racial slur in the UK.

        • Brandon Whosville

well this is America and we are talking about people in paklistan. so who gives a fuck what those dumb ass brits are saying over in the uk. You guys can even speak english right ;)

          • Callum King-Underwood

So you complain at me that paki is only a slur if said with hate and then go on to insult the entirety of britain by calling us dumb asses, ignorant, narrow minded and saying we can’t speak english right.
And I guess dropping the N-bomb at any moment isnt a slur, that is just how the word is used in much of europe.

          • Brandon Whosville

Hey, now you are catching on! Brit in of itself isn’t a bad word. Or an ethnic slur. But, because i hate you mother fuckers {as should every other red blooded american} To me personally Brit has a negative connotation. I FUCKING HATE BRITS. When i say brit out loud, to myself I’m saying, Shut the fuck up you crooked tooth effeminate cock sucker from the queens land. But damn, thats just too much to say. So i shorten it to Brit. However, that is my own personal prejudice at work. When the rest of the world says brit, they might just mean someone from Britain, or the uk or of british decent. I hear whiny cocksucker even though brit was said. Again, totally my bad. Nigger is and has always been a slur. Its not meaning people from Nigeria now is it? NIGGER is a bad word thought up by biggots…sure you can claim it an americanization of a latin word for black. But we all know thats bullshit. Nigger is has and will always be intentionally said to offend. If you called a black guy an african that would be about on par with calling a paki a paki. You call that same black guy a nigger, your probably going to get some very crooked looks if not punched in the mouth. Its amazing how stupid you are. I mean really. Just plain stupid. So many veiled references, bet you get none of them. Shame.

          • Lockmazter

I find it offensive that anyone would call you inbred, monarchist, limey bastards, “brits”! They should at least use a capitol “B”! (Just kidding, mates!)

          • Brandon Whosville

Lol sloppy dumb ass american! Fuck!

          • JoeShmoe

“…and saying we can’t speak English CORRECTLY.”

      • Callum King-Underwood

Here in Britain it is indeed racial slur used to refer to anyone of asian origin, often preceeded by F***ing. Pretty much equivalent to the N bomb.

        • Brandon Whosville

any word said with hate is a slur. its time for people to get off their fucking ignorant ass. paki isn’t a slur. its where they are from. just because you say paki with hate in your heart doesn’t mean its a slur. it means you are surrounded by narrow minded people.

      • Fred Johnson

I may be out of touch, but I don’t recall it being a slur in the US. Although I haven’t hung out with my old Paki friends in about a decade. Maybe things have changed?

    • Gallan

They should introduce a line of gold, silver and diamond encrusted tape and call it ‘Nigga tape’ :)

  • Jonathan Wright

did anyone else notice the AK sling going from barrel to magazine?

    • JumpIf NotZero

Did now…. Well… you don’t want to loose your lucky magazine I guess?

    • jjkayd

That might be an optical illusion. If you notice, there seems to be some sling showing behind that part of the weapon. After all, a sling going to a magazine would be ridiculously impractical.

    • echelon

Definitely an optical illusion. But the one photo does look to show a magnifying glass attached to the top cover?!?!

  • 11b

    10/10 would operate with

  • PK

Weatherized, transparent vinyl tape! Good stuff but I doubt I’ll ever use it on guns like that. Interesting culture.

  • dan citizen

It’s camo for their environment. Just like how in the american midwest you can wrap your gun in faux wood panelling tape so you blend in with mobile homes.

    • 101nomad

My home ain’t mobile, I took the tires off and put them on my truck.

  • John Dalton

There is a common misconception about this wrap, that it is made of plastic. This is actually a very ingenious design as it is actually made from Fruit Roll Ups which can be eaten in case of emergency! Pure genius!

  • Bp. David

No, No, NO!!! Our weapons are supposed to be black and UGLY so they’ll scare the hell out of Lib Gun-Grabbers!

    • mikewest007

Oh come on! You have no idea how many gun owners keep more than guns in the closet!
…on the other hand, I don’t know either, but I’m not really that bothered about finding out. Armed and fabulous? I’m okay with that.

  • Maxcoseti

Interesting, but now I’m intrigued about what’s welded on the top cover of that AK, what is that? Is it the largest aperture sight in the entire universe?

  • Alex

Ahhhh, the cerakote of the Middle East.

  • gunslinger

bright tape (i.e. big target) on combat rifle? no thanks
flair on personal sporting weapon? why not?

    • Dan

Like carrying a rifle dressed in camo doesn’t make you a big target?

      • LCON

Only If it’s UPC or ABU

  • Bill

“Flair” should be another term for muzzle flash, I’ll just stick to duct tape, or to keep with the ethnic slurs, “Appalachian Chrome.” The brass tacks give the one a nice western trade rifle look, as does the screw eye for rear sight aperture. But you do have to give the resident firearms technicians of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan props: nowhere else can you find a guy who’ll sell you a Tokarev chambered in 8mm Mauser that he hand-filed out of a Hilux truck spring while squatting in an alley.

  • 101nomad

This is one of those times, as few as they are, that I will keep my comment to myself.

  • 101nomad

Duct tape is to cover butt crack, electrical tape is to wrap rag around extremities to stop bleeding. Pretty colored tape around your firearm may be the reason you need a firearm.

  • Lockmazter

This is, hands down, the stupidest (most stupid?) shit I have seen on this site. Ever! Save that crap for steering wheels and girls’ softball bats!

  • http://www.thefirearmblog.com/ Phil W “Senior Writer TFB”

Lets drop the racial slur nonsense and ripping each other. The post is what it is. In the US it’s not a slur and certainly wasn’t meant to be. Some are pushing the rules with some of your comments. Please stay on topic.

  • TACZ

This tape is even more stupid than the “Paki” argument in the comments.
