Troy AK-47 Rails

Troy Industries has introduced new rails designed for the AK-47.  Using their proven designs as a foundation, the Troy AK-47 rail is lightweight and modular, providing the AK shooter a lot of options for accessories such as lights, lasers, scopes, or sling mounts.

The AK47 top rail offers a 5-inch Picatinny rail section that will fit Russian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Chinese, US and other AK-47’s with a standard length gas tube (stamped and milled).  This provides AK shooters a wealth of opportunities to add fixed, folding, or red dot sights.

Troy’s AK47 hand guard is machined from hardened aircraft aluminum with stainless steel components.  The hand guard is finished in MIL-SPEC hard coat anodizing for protection from the elements and longevity.  The AK-47 hand guard will only fit stamped receivers, however, not the milled variety.  Troy advises that the hand guard will work with “some” Bulgarian, Romanian, and Egyptian lower hand guard retainers, but others may need some minor modifications to fit properly.  Hey, it’s an AK-47, Dremel tool anyone?

The hand guard is replaced easily without the use of any gun-smithing tools. With the machined holes in the Troy AK-47 hand guard, the rail remains cool even during extended firing, and it increases heat dissipation compared to the standard AK-47 hand guard.  Currently Troy is offering the hand guard in combination with the top rail, but the top rail can be purchased separately.

Unfortunately, the long bottom rail was conspicuously absent from the SHOT Show floor.  The long bottom rail extends past the short bottom rail by 3.5 inches.  In addition, the long bottom rail has a Picatinny rail on the top of the extension.

Now it really belongs in the garbage can.

Many shooters have sworn off Troy products.

I understand the bias against Troy, I truly do, but to say this is trash or ugly or tapco-esque is disingenuous. This looks incredible, If I had an AK it might almost tempt me to violate the Troy boycott. I like that the top rail is low enough to get cowitness off a micro red dot. Let’s not be ignorant. Saying I will not spend money at Troy no matter how good a deal or great a product is one thing, lying and saying their products suck is a whole other thing.

    • Yutrzenika

What is it that people don’t like about Troy? I’ve only ever heard good things about their products.

      • ArcRoyale

Apparently troy hired a couple of people who have political views that are other than prescribed, and apparently some folks had a tantrum about it.

        • Kurtz

“political views that are other than prescribed”
You mean speaking out against the 2nd amendment? Yeah I can understand why some people, like FIREARMS OWNERS, might want to avoid this company.

          • BOB

Try fired the anti-gun Chicago cop, but kept Lon Horiuchi’s partner, Monroe. Like I said, I get the anger, but to lie to ourselves about Troy’s quality is childish and immature.

          • Kurtz

I didn’t say anything about the quality of their products, just criticizing their employment standards

          • ArcRoyale

Not to get into politics, per blog rules, but they hired the fellow to do a job, not to run for congress.

You sound like someone who has never heard of the UltimAK rail

  • José Pulido

This would have been awesome… 3 years ago.

  • hkryan

Aren’t they ripping off UltiMAK’s design?

    • Kurtz

Pretty much, except the UltimAK is cheaper, lower profile and an already well established, much liked product.

    • Aaron E

I admit there are similarities, but I think the smooth ribbed sides and circular vent holes make it unique enough to Troy.

  • Mackey

Jesus, gun owners are some of the most self-centered, melodramatic people. The grudges they hold over the slightest, provocation, then when they get what they want, still is not happy. Let me guess how many old washed up dinosaurs still have some everlasting grudge with Ruger even though it was two decades ago and Bill Ruger’s been dead and buried half that long.

    • BOB

Ruby Ridge was a tad more serious than Ruger trying to ingratiate itself with The Powers That Be.

  • Guest

What I’d like to know is, can the gas tube be field stripped off the rifle like a standard AK and still maintain zero of a red dot on top? If so, then Troy just one-upped Ultimak in my opinion.

  • Squirreltactical

I could take or leave the rail, since I have a TWS, but that handguard is GORGEOUS. It’s the only smooth handguard like that so far that isn’t for Saiga-style AKs that don’t have a handguard retainer.

  • Randy

I think this new hand guard looks pretty awesome regardless of manufacturer, and this combined with some of the other new items coming out may just force me to finally buy an AK.

  • Jeff

Just my two cents, I bought a 308 rail in low profile from a local gun shop . I needed a high profile, my mistake. Called Troy to see options. Right away they asked for my address and would cross ship me the high profile rail on there dime. Even one day ups to me. I don’t care what beef others have with Troy. They were very nice and there customer service was awsome.due to my eperiance with them i now run 4 Troy rails and a lot of flip ups. Good company and will continue to buy there products. Just my two cents,

  • Jeff

Side note hope they make this for my saiga 12 le would look pretty damn nice dressed up with this rail.

  • David Pyzik

Can the lower handguard be used without the upper rail? Say with a Saiga gas tube or an ultimak?

  • Scott.Harrison

Many of you are forgetting that Stephen P. Troy is also a thief.
