Taran Tactical Glock Magazine Base Pads

Multi-time world champion Taran Butler is nearly unmatched in the competition shooting world. Few have the skill to compete at his level. Part of improving your skill level is making sure you have quality gear. Taran created his own company, Taran Tactical Innovations, where he shares the gear that has helped him get to the top. Here, we’ll be talking about Taran Tactical’s Glock magazine base plate extension.

Taking a standard 9mm Glock 17/34 seventeen-round magazine, a Taran Tactical base plate can extend your capacity by 4-5 rounds. Taran Tactical advertises a 23-round capacity, but this may depend on breaking in your spring, the brand of ammo, how clean your magazine is, and other factors. I can only get 22 rounds into my magazines, but they are completely new mags and springs. Not only does the base pad increase capacity, but it also provides a larger surface to grab onto during speed reloads in competition. Additionally, adding extra weight onto the magazine allows for easier magazine ejection since gravity has more to work with.

For competitive shooters, the large base plate extension fits in the USPSA 140mm box. Taran Tactical also sells a small base plate which does not increase capacity, but it still adds weight and enhances the look of your magazine.

The base plates are made of anodized aluminum and come in multiple colors: black, blue, purple, red, and silver. They are available for Glock, STI/SV, or Smith & Wesson M&P pistol mags. You can purchase the base plates and springs separately and install them on your own magazines, or you can purchase fully assembled magazines with the base plates and springs pre-installed.

The base pad replaces the stock Glock base pad, and is easily installed by tightening a single hex screw.
