SmartReloader SR5000 Modular Gun Vise

20130525_170727

The SmartReloader SR5000 Modular Gun Vise assists the rifle owner with rifles, short and long. The “modular” part refers to the two rubberized clamps which can be moved to six different locations to accomodate different rifle lengths. The modular clamps do not require any screws to move.

The SR5000 with an AR-15 barrel. Note how the clamps can be moved to accomodate shorter or longer rifles and rifle parts.

The SR5000 with an AR-15 barrel and upper receiver. Note how the clamps can be moved to accomodate shorter or longer rifles and rifle parts.

Stability can be enhanced by anti-slip add-on pieces (two of a possible six are included) which can also be used to store parts, tools, etc. The SR5000 is made of “hard, durable plastic, resistant to chemicals and solvents.” It should be noted that the SR5000 does not seem intended to replace a vise that clamps to a table — it seems appropriate for light to medium weight work such as cleaning, sight installation, and part swapping.

seems like a nice system, but could we get a bit more info? how does it work with ARs compared to AKs to bolts and shottys? can you put pistols on it?

how much work can be done? you say you think for cleaning, and part swapping. it sounds like anything requiring a decent ammount of torque (ar barrel installation?) is a no go.

I don’t have an AK to test, but my AR, bolt action, and 10/22 all fit fine. The rubber vice ends will hold a pistol.

As you mentioned, anything requiring a decent amount of torque is probably not going to work, especially since the rubber vice ends do squish when pressed on. That rubber is nice to protect your rifle, but it’s not helpful when you need to apply a lot of force. Again, for light to medium torque jobs, the SR5000 will probably suffice.

    Where is it made?

    • floppyscience

SmartReloader is an Italian company, so it’s probably not US-made. I assume that’s what you were getting at.

      • Laserbait

If it were Italian made, I’d consider it. But chinese, no thanks…

Didn’t know they were an Italian company, but I’ve been trying not to buy their stuff, because it’s made in China, and not really that much cheaper than stuff made in the U.S.

The SR5000 is made in China.

Thanks Chris. That’s too bad, it looked interesting.

One thing I didn’t mention in the main review are all the storage areas on the vice for screws, CLP bottles, tools, etc. I have lost so many springs/screws/etc that having a secure place for them is a nice feature.

Yes it is a nice addition and enough in itself to make me buy. How many screws etc have a lost? Too darn many:-)
