Nikon P-223 Rifle Scope

Nikon P-223

Designed for long range accuracy, the new Nikon P-223 is a new rifle scope that claims to be at the top of the list of quality glass for the AR-type rifles.

The P-223 is a 4-12×40 variable scope.  It uses the Nikon BDC 600 reticle, has a 3.7″ eye relief and uses the company’s Rapid Action Turrets.  The scope weighs in at 17.5 ounces.

The Nikon P-223 is both waterproof and fogproof.  It is available in a matte black finish at this time.  Camo patterns may be available later, but that will likely be based on sales and demand.

MSRP is $249.95.  The scope is backed by Nikon’s lifetime warranty.

“– top of the list of quality glass” and “MSRP is $249.95” doesn’t really track.

“for the AR-type rifles.” Pretty important qualifier, as it is true you can stick any high dollar optic (thinking Leupold or Swarovski) on an AR, none are designed specifically for the AR. This has bullet drop measurements for the average length/twist rate AR barrel.

      • Actually Leupold does make AR specific scopes. I have one of the new upgraded AR Mod 1 1.5×4. MSRP on these varies wildly. I’ve seen $400 up to $700 for the same scope. The Mod 1 has a mil/mil setup.

    • You mean the quality of the scope? I’ve never used a Nikon product that wasn’t well built with good glass as well.
Now this is one price but some models of the same P-223 scope run over $400.

I’m sure it’s a nice piece of glass but generally, when any kind of optics are concerned, they’re usually not that cheap. That’s why their claim of “top of the line” kind of rang as hyperbole.

Nikon has made excellent camera lenses for years and years. (They’re basically the only serious competitor to Canon in professional photography and they’ve made scopes for years.) I think it’s safe to say that Nikon means what they say.

Sounds like you’re talking about Nikon’s M-223 series glass. The P-223 is a more economical line of AR scopes, based on the M-223’s.
